    I have two unrelated questions:

    1.  I understand, using Logic Studio, that I can set the velocity (loudness) of a given midi note using the "piano roll" editor screen.  This is fairly easy to do.  However, Vienna Instruments allows a "Velocity Crossfade" that smoothly goes to different articulations as an instrument is played louder and louder (it sounds different as loudness levels are changed).  My question:  how does setting the midi note volume in Logic affect the Velocity Cross-fade function?  For example, should I set the Velocity  in Piano Roll to 127 and leave it to Velocity Crossfade to vary the loudness of the instrument up to that value, perhaps starting softer?  Or does Velocity Crossfade OVERRIDE the velocity setting that I have given the midi note?  In other words, what controls the volume of a given midi note?

    2.  How does one edit articulations, such as choice of velocity crossfade, as above, or legato versus stacatto, after the track has been laid down in an initial take?  It's easy to change a note value, say from C to D, but how does one change the articulation?  Suppose I want to change the D to a stacatto note, even though, as I originally played it, it was a legato note?  It is necessary to lay down the track again?  Or is there a way to find the change in articulation somewhere in the midi data, and change that directly in Logic?

    * You also have the possibility to fade between two cells > This is called Cell X-Fade (sometimes also called 'Cross-Fade').

    Thanks for the fast reply.  I guess I actually had THREE questions.  How can you edit a switch in articulations other than velocity (which I assume is a separtely recorded patch depending on loudness).  For example, can one EDIT a change from stacatto to legato?  Or is it necessary to re-record the track?

    I'm not sure I understand the question but It's really quite simple if you're using keyswitches to switch between articulations.  If, let's say, C1 triggers your stac articulation and D1 triggers your legato then simply program a D1 before the stac note that you want to be a legato instead of C1.  Or, you can rearrange the cells in Vienna.

    Hello again

    The Video shows that legato, staccato etc can be choosen by keyswitches (notes outside the playing range of a certain instrument), by the playing tempo or other controllers -such as CC01 or...

    So if you want to edit such a changement of the articulations you need to change the keyswitch, the tempo or the controller value.

    Selecting an articulation by the velocity of a midi note is a further possibility. A use of this controller could be to switch from a normal sustain to espressivo sustain for stronger keystrokes.

    For changing this control-velocity-system you fill other articulations into the cells or you shift the switching levels to the desired position (within the Vienna Instrument)

    Hi Steve, I am having the same question that you have 4 years ago.  I am not a good midi player, so I wonder if it is possible to change articulation and velocity cross-fade afterward? I am using logic, VI, VE, too.
