  • Logic's bounce in place + VE Pro host automation = Glitch

I have discover a weird bug.

I was to convert to audio a couple of pieces for a movie but sometimes theres was some glitch. What i have found is that those glitch was sync with automation data that control VE Pro's fader. Using bounce in place or any offline bounce with VE pro automation data in logic cause that problem. When I bypass the automation everything is fine. Since all my volume balance is based on host automation, that means a lot of rework.

I'm using VE Pro 5814 (64 bit) with Logic Pro 9.1.1 (32bit) with apogee ensemble and a 2.66 Quad-Core intel Xeon Mac Pro with 16 Go Ram and Snow Leopard.

  • Hello Fred,

please send one Logic song to , we will look into this!

  • You can try to turn off this setting in Logic > Preferences > Audio > General > "Sample Accurate Automation" and set also the buffer process range to "medium". In case that this doesn´t help, please send us the project.

  • I have found a fix. The only thing that worked for me is turning the Latency to NONE in the VEP server interface. No more glitch and crash when bouncing offline.

  • If it also works for you with 1 buffer of latency, you should try out the latest version of VE Pro, which fixes a potential issue with automation when using 2 buffers of latency.

  • I have the latest (r7043) version and can't work with 2 latency buffer. Didnt tried with 1 buffer for now. Are you speaking of an other version?

  • No, 7043 is the latest. Could you check whether it works with 1 buffer for you? Thanks.

  • No, it's impossible to use 1 or 2 buffer with bounce and bounce in place. I got a lot of glitch

  • Looks like this is a bug in Logic. Even though sample accurate automation is turned off in preferences, bouncing in place will do this with sample accurate automation nonetheless. It might be best to file a bug report to Apple support.

  • After some further analysis, it seems that bouncing in general causes parameter automation to be processed sample accurate in Logic. It is recommended to use realtime bounce at all times in combination with VE Pro, unless you're not automating any parameters. It should also solve any latency compensation irregulaties. We'll try to find a workaround for this, but I'm not totally confident that it is even possible to achieve. Other hosts have none of these issues.
