I recently put a CD using all-VSL instruments up on CD Baby - www.cdbaby.com/cd/kersten5

Please listen/buy/review if you can! It is all quiet, contemplative, melancholy pieces that I was trying to get a very transparent sound with, using ony Appassionata strings, a few woodwinds, harp and the soprano section.

  • Hi William. I listened carefully to all the previews. There's one preview in particular that called my attention, track no.4 called Night Walk (2). To me that really sounds "transparent", like gently hitting crystal cups. The cellos/basses remind me of oriental religious chants, but they also remind me of Beethoven...who (I'm sure you know) gave the double basses a more independent role. I consider it a fine achievement.

  • Bought mine.

Looking forward to listening to it knowing the quality of what you usually produce.

  • Thanks Guy and Mr. String!

  • Some lovely work - Shadows of the Soul (1) in particular caught my attention. As you say, it's all contemplative and it really works well for me - great work!
