    Will the Vienna MIR be available for Mac users ?

    If so...... when ?

    Welcome Rolanda-90,

    thanks for your interest in Vienna MIR.

    MIR as we know it now won't ever be available for Mac. But don't despair: Based on the same concept, we are working on a new application called Vienna MIR Pro right now, which will bring OS X-compatibility  (amongst many other new features). We can't announce its release date officially yet, but we have high hopes to have MIR Pro ready during winter 2010/2011.

    In the meantime, you could use MIR on a Mac like quite a few fellow users do it: You could run Windows 7 on any up-to-date Intel-Mac using BootCamp. Or you could use MIR like it was actually meant to be used: As a stand-alone application on a dedicated PC, receiving MIDI from your Mac. :-)

    Hello!

    Any updated news on this subject? Eagerly waiting here for any drops of information.

    In some thread you mentioned that Vienna team is waiting for Apple's new generation of processors. Now Apple announced the new Mac Pros. Are these the new machines you were waiting for or is this alltogether old information?

    And finally, will there be a SE version of MIR for Mac too?

    The first MIR for Mac is likely to be MIR Pro, which is due some time at the end of this year, or the start of 2011. However, there has been no word on whether the initial release will be for OSX as well as Windows. There are no plans to port the current version of MIR or MIR SE to OSX.

    Confirmed. Actually MIR Pro will be a completely new engine (... it _has_ to be, mostly for OSX compatibilty). It will have very little in common in the with the current version of MIR, apart from the underlying audio and GUI concepts.

    Sorry, but we have no real world experiences in this regard yet.

      Okay, so it now looks like a newer version of MIR, compatible w/ Mac OSX is coming out in 2011.  I've been holding off buying a new computer until MIR for Mac comes along.  I'm interested in what a previous writer wondered--are the new MacPros w/ their six processors able to handle MIR w/out MIR being on a separate computer?  If so, I'd think about selling my current computers and getting a new Macpro in anticipation.  In general, what's the word on the new MacPro's?  They look impressive (expensive, too).

    Please make an affordable (SE) type version of it, please! I'm sure there are alot of 1x Macpro Users out there who would love to use the same computer.

    They'll have to wait for MIR Pro SE, whenever that comes out.

    thanks for your interest in Vienna MIR. I f you don't need the new machine _now_, I would wait for the actual release of  MIR for Mac and see what's available then. AFAIR, computers never got more expensive during the last 30 years or so ... 😉

    Hey Dietz,


    I'm a big reverb guy and have almost everything VSL has ever made - but not Mir - and that allows for the fact that I acknowledge that Mir is both great and incredibly unlike any other reverberator ever conceived.

    I love VE Pro and I love Vienna Suite (and the combination of both). Now after a week you couldn't rip VI Pro from my fingers with the jaws of life.

    But in order for me to switch over to Mir (as much as I would like to be able to do it today!) you're going to have to adapt the workflow to allow for these other tools.

    I hope that Mir Pro is able to accommodate these things. I want Mir Pro on the master along with the sequencer and this being fed by a couple of VE Pro slaves using VI Pro. I want to be able to use my other hardware and software reverbs in a hybrid mix outside of Mir within my sequencer. Can't wait until I get this kind of setup working. Plus I don't want to have to reload my VSL templates every time I need to reboot my master machine. Master machines have to be booted so many extra times because of installation and upgrades.

    Another good word for VI Pro - it's really, really extended the life and usefulness of all the VSL sample libraries.

     Jack, as MIR Pro will be able to accept audio inputs, all of the above should be possible.

    BTW, these reasons are why I don't use MIR either. [;)]

    So what you're saying is the MIR Pro is going to only accept audio inputs from slave machines and not the direct ethernet input from VE Pro on those slaves?

    Will we be able to output from MIR Pro back into the sequencer on our Master machines to be able to do hybrid mixes using our current hardware and software reverbs?

     I can't answer your question directly, but i would imagine that the routing will be:

    1. MIDI from sequnecer to VE Pro
    2. Audio return to sequencer from VE Pro
    3. Route audio return as input into MIR
    4. Route mix out of MIR

    That should give you the opportunity to use sends from the VE Pro audio return to any other software or hardware FX unit, including your Bricasti.
