Would like to use Ve Pro outside PT's, to access more ram, but still on same PC. Windows 7 64 bit, PT's 8.0.4. When I choose prefs in VEP, I have for audio these options,,,, Asio,(which is used to bypass the PT's software and therefore a no go),,,, Direct sound Digidesign 003R Adat 11/18,, 003R 1/2,,, 003R 3/4,,, ect. and lastly 003R S/PDIF 9/10..... For midi, I have,, FW 003 midi control,,, FW 003 midi in/out,,, 003 midi Async midi control...??? Trying different combonations of these hasn't gotten me much other than an empty box for slave host(?) When instantiating and hitting 'connect' there are no choices?? The video makes it seem so easy, yet the prefs were not discussed??? Its probably something simple, (I would think) that I'm missing,,, and would really appreciate your help!!

Thanks,,,,,,, Mike PS,,,,, that was using an instrument track in PT's, where all VI's are instantiated?!??

re connecting to instances, when you open server have you clicked 'add' then typed in an intance name, then lauanch Protools create instrument track insert ve pro ,you should then see the instance name you just created (in the server),highlight it and click connect.

Not suer if this is what you wanted to know, hope this helps.

Thanks Darkmatter (Spelling ,,Sorry) So I've opened VEP, did a file save 'Solo Violins',,,, opened PT's and put VE on an instrument track. Hit connect on the server interface that opened,,, but then there is no way to type in the server interface, and no names under the 'available slaves'?? Slave hostname is also empty?? And no way to type anything there! So I'm doing something in the wrong order or something??!!??

Thanks again for your reply!!! (I've been using PT's since the start of the 001,, just no real experience with VI's)

I had been able to open VEP by using the VE Server, then opening VE in PT's as an RTAS. But since the upgrade to PT's 8.0.4, I can't open files with VE??? So thought I'd try the 'stand alone' version, not the RTAS, and therefore have access to the 12 gigs of ram I have!

Thanks again,,,,, Mike

I use Mac so Im not sure about how pcs work.
Im on Protools 8.0.4 but dont have this problem?

But I thought when you open the Ve Pro 64bit server then launch Protools and insert VE Pro on an an instrument track and connect to the server that you are using Ve Pro outside protools and can therefore access all available ram?

sorry not familar with pcs.

Dean.

edit: maybe Im confused I thought you were using Ve Pro on just one machine, thats what Im doing.
ON one machine when you insert the ve pro in Protools you should see the instance in the window to the left not in the slaves window.

OK,, just realized you have to use the VEP 'Server' ,,,,, I guess the stand alone means just that,, no PT's?!! So anyhow thanks Dean, your instructions worked perfectly on a song that I had not used VE on before? I'll need to figure out what the deal is with older files? At this point I have three diff. cells with a solo violin, but can't get the key switching to work?? Only have 2 notes under A/B select and they don't do anything??? Plus I need three (for now) for the 3 cells I have, staccato, sustain, and detache. Can someone get me kick started on key switching??

Thanks,,,, Mike
