  • RTAS Errors in PT using EnsemblePro

Hi, I use a MacPro 2*2,6 GHz with 5 GB RAM for ProTools TDM Accel Host and for the moment a MacBookPro 2.2 GHz with 4 GB RAM as Slave with Ensemble Pro Server (64bit) running...

The MacBookPro seems to work fine, no errors or CPU overload, while working on FilmMusic stuff... Memory full used, but seems to be ok...

The MacPro works normally fine, but from time o time I get RTAS errors (CPU Overload), ok I use a lot of tracks (120 inputs of Ensemble Pro) via Ethernet into ProTools...But not all same time...:-)) Just Kontakt 4.1 and ViennaSounds.. When I switch the cache fron 512 to 1024...problems are gone.... But CPU Level in ProTools and the Apple Diagnostic Tool most of the time no problem (20-30 %).. I reserved one processor just for ProTools, means 3 Processors for RTAS...

Is it a normal behaviour, that the meters are normally between 20-30 % and then suddenly, although no more tracks are used, the grow up and end in the RTAS error warning...

Or is there a way of communication between Ensemble Pro Server and the host, that perhaps the server machine slows down and informs ProTools about a problem??

    Best

    Chris,

If your slave is the macbookpro 4gb, there is no benefit from the 64bit server.

How about trying the 32 bit server and see if this helps?

Also, do you really need to build the template with the entire universe always ready to go? 120 lines (60 pairs) is really extreme. TRY: sections. I bet you can do this in 12-15 pairs, and still maintain incredible directionality and control of verbs and eq. You STILL have control over each part or performance, but in ProTools, you have submixed audio to a manageable number. What did you used to do on a live scoring date? Did you ever bring in 120 mic lines?

WHAT IF you only loaded what you actually needed to use? Try using CHANNEL SETS to save a library of frequently used channels/VIs. Load only what you need.

I use a macbookpro as a slave and I typically run out of ram way before a dozen instruments are loaded. Yes, I am using the full VI collections, but even still, only loading what I need.

ALSO, try playing with the 1x, 2x buffer in the rtas plug.

ALSO, if you are in HD, try using more chips for your mixer plug. 6DSPs for 96 voices will typically run better than 3DSPs for the same voice count. More headroom.

    Hope this helps.
