  • A short theme I wrote rendered for string trio with VSL SE and SE+

    Hello everybody

I'd like to share a short "classical-style-like" theme I wrote. It's mocked-up for string trio and I used the Solo Strings from VSL SE and SE+ exclusively. Please feel free to comment where you spot room for improvement. First upload, so please be kind and don't hold back with tips and tricks [:)]. Anything with the samples I could do better?

    So here it is:

    Molto cantabile ed espressivo

Here's a second version with VI Pro:

    Thanks for listening

  • Hi Dominique, thanks for sharing. I enjoyed your trio...I listened to it twice (:-). It's an intimate cantabile, I mean it. Why do you want to improve it? Certainly there's always room for improvement but, overall, I think your piece is kind to the ears, (something which is difficult for me to find nowadays).

  • Thank you for the kind words Mr. Strings, really appreciated.

I thought maybe somebody has some tips for me regarding the mocking up since I'm new to this, hence the desire to improve

  • Yes, sorry Dominique. I forgot about it. I guess that if you want people to give you some tips you have to be a bit more SPECIFIC. Or you can buy some books on "orchestral simulation", (for example, click above in VIENNA ACADEMY, or go to Scribd.com). You may find useful what Alan Belkin has to say.

Apparently, some time ago he was in this forum. Also, at his site, check his free books (and articles); (it's the 2nd time I mention him in this forum).

    Regards

Mr String (who also has a desire to improve)

  • P.S: I meant COMPANY / Learning Resources...not exactly VIENNA ACADEMY.

  • This may be useful too, perhaps:

"Create more realistic strings" by Steve Skinner (Aug. 2006!):

  • Hello Mr. Strings. Thanks for all the help, the links are very interesting.

  • I'm glad to hear that.

  • A very emjoyable piece to listen to. The only thing I would say is that maybe it needs just a tiny fraction more reverb as it sounded a bit too dry for my taste. Apart from that it was wonderful. Thanks fro sharing it!

  • Thank you for the kind words. I may upload a version with corrected voice leading and will take care to add a bit more reverb then. Thanks for the help

  • Here is a new version with some changes in voice leading. And it's made with VI Pro now [:)]

Still Solo Violin, Solo Viola and Solo Cello from VSL SE and SE+
