I can't get VE Pro (latest build 6150) to play back using DP 7.2 as the host without crackling on playback.  Have tried instances of Omnisphere, Trillian and Kontakt.  Using the exact same setup with Pro Tools 8 and no issues at all.   If I load those same VI's into DP directly things play back just fine.  Have tried buffer size at 256 and 512 and 1024, same problem.

Mac Pro Quad Core 2x2.8GHz 14 GB ram, 10.6.4

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Bill

Dear DSP Bill,

please try to disable "virtual instrument pre-rendering" in DP by going to the instruments' plug-in mini menu and selecting "Always Run In Real Time". Does that help?

Best regards,

Maya

Thank you Maya!  That worked!  I had to close and reopen the project for the settings to take affect, then everything played back fine.

Regards,

Bill

We have a lab full of powerful Macs that have the latest DP (7.24), plus VSL. A certain percentage of the time, after a number of tracks are added (and instruments are added to Vienna Ensemble), users get crackling and can't get rid of it. Sometimes it is a constant low-volume crackle, sometimes pretty loud and sporadic.

Occasionally, re-connecting the Vienna instrument will work. I tried Maya's solution (above) using "default to real time" and/or "run this instance in real time." ("Always run in real time" -- those exact words -- did not appear in any DP menu I could find; please let me know if we missed it). I made sure to quit and restart the program each time. No luck. Crackling persists. Any other ideas?

People are resorting to using other software synths to complete projects. But not everyone has the problem. Quite perplexing.
