  • Vienna Instruments Pro - My Favorites features and some suggestions

    Hi

    I would to express to the VSL team how thrilled I am by Vienna Instruments Pro. IMHO it's an exponential leap in functionally and sound shaping. I'd also like to offer some suggestions for future updates,

    My favorite features are:

    Sample Start: I always thought that many of the legato transition sounds were too loud. This feature solves the problem perfectly. Together with Interval Threshold, I can now shape the transitions any way I want.

    Humanize: Great !

    Polyphonic Legato: Great !

    Auto Voicing.: Great !

    EQ: Very useful.

    I have a few suggestions for future updates.

    =======================================================
    Chorusing when using the xFade
    =======================================================
    I detect a chorusing when using the xFade. It's caused by two different sounds playing at the same time at the cross fade point. It's most noticeable when playing solo instruments.

    This seems to be a common problem when cross fading samples. I've noticed it in other software like cross fades in Kontakt.

    I would be great if there was a way to minimize this chorusing effect.

    =====================================
    Interface readability
    =====================================
    The interface is fine except the text color tends to blend into the background color making it I bit hard to read the characters at times. If the text color was very dark or black, I believe it would easier to read.

    Thanks again for the great creative tools.

  • Hi,

    I also bought Instrument PRO immediately and it´s very innovative

    I am working with ProTools 8 and there are some issues compared

    with integrating it in the Vienna Ensemble Pro

    eg right mouse click doesn´t work, fade curves don´t work with 2nd spot etc

    therefore I tried it with Ensemble Pro, which worked fine so far

    now my question; the RTAS version is better in performance than connecting with

    rewire and PT 8. is there a way to improve the rewire connection?

    thanks

    Hannes

    I hope I'm wrong on this, but it doesn't seem likely to happen for a couple of years at least. In theory, it should be possible, but it would take a tremendous effort from the developers, even to allow for seamless crossfadings in one instrument. I'm not even sure it could be pulled of without adding more samples to the libraries, at least not with the crossfade-technique. I remember reading about a new technique to morph between samples, avoiding the chorusing effect. Don't remember the specifics though, and I have no idea how useful it would prove to be.

    This has been a request for many years. However, VSL has said that it will take a tremendous amount of time even to attempt to fix this. The only advice that there has been so far is to move the slider across the transition quickly. It is solely because of this problem that I don't use Velocity xFade on solo instruments.

    welcome Hannes ;-)
