  • Parameters missing from VI-PRO?

I don't know if I missed something but there seem to be some VI parameters that are not present in VI Pro.

    1. The ablity to set velocity sencitivity for a patch in a cell.

    2. Decay and sustain parameters in the cell.

Are they not there? Are they coming in a future update?

  • Any answers on this?

  • Hello mkapou,

    Sorry for the delay.

    1) Check outthe Velocity Curve  in the "Edit" Tab of the Slot Editor Area.

    2) In simple works We found that "Decay" never really worked the way it was intended, so we skipped it. The "Release" and "Release Delay" Sliders in the same "Edit" Tab should also be helpful to replace the Sustain slider.

    Best,

  • Thanks Paul,

Even though I don't understand how the release and release delay can replace the sustain slider here is the bigger question.

Can we count on the regular VI being updated and supported in the future?

Or, is VI pro supposed to replace it?

And please don't get me wrong. I love all the new features (time stretch & pitch envelopes especially) in VI pro and I use them a lot. It's just that for most of what I do the regular VI works better for me especially after having spent countless hours creating my own complex presets that make extensive use of all the parameters, including the decay-sustain and the common cell.

  • Hi mkapou,

I understand your concern. The original Vienna Instruments will also be taken care of with future updates, of course (the next one is already in the pipeline). After all, the original VI is the included sample player with each VI Collection!

  • I am afraid I also miss the decay/sustain parameter. This has always been a nice way to blend to samples. E.g.: Combining a non vibrato violin with marcato attacks. I really think, the parameter was helpful! Could you bring that feature back?

  • Is there really no one else missing that obviously helpful feature? Maybe there is another way I am not aware of! How do you guys mange to combine one samples Attack only with another ones sustain? I can only see to do it manually via slot-crossfade. But that is not nearly as convinient, as with the sustain/dwcay parameters ... Anyone?

  • Writing on an Ipad is really a mess ... especially in english! Sorry, I did not want to shout, I just copied this from notepad and the text size turned out to be bigger.

Back to the topic: No one ever used that very cool feature? Right now I am building my new template and create some Vienna Instrument Pro matrices. I really miss that, but it seems to be stupid to use just for this the normal Vienna Instrument. Especially in MIR ...

I really can't believe nobody else is missing it. Otherwise, there must be some alternative to achieve the same thing ...

Please, give me a hint! ;-)

  • I'm not missing it, but then again I don't really understand what you are using it for. Is there any way that you could make a short video tutorial so that we can see how you use it, and therefore maybe either support your request or give you some suggestions as to an alternative workflow?

  • I won't make a video tutorial. LOL.

Just try the following with Vienna Instruments (non-pro). Insert a Solo Violin non vibrato patch. In the second slot insert a marcato patch.

Both samples at the same time don't make any sense, of course. Then you pull down the cell sustain to zero and pull up the decay parameter until you don't hear the vibrato sustain of the marcato patch any more. Maybe give the non-vib patch a little attack, et voila! You got your marcato patch with non-vibrato sustain. The same thing works in VIpro just with short articulations, like staccato. This narrows the possibilities of VIpro down a little in my opinion. What duo you think? Is there another way to do that in VIpro, that does not include manual slot crossfade via CC? Of course you can do it that way, but it is not nearly as fast and difficult to achieve an exact timing ...

  • Seriously: Nobody finds this useful? Am I missing something obvious? At least I would like somebody to answere, why it is not important to him or her ... Is there another way to get the same result? I don't see an alternative.
