Greetings All,
I am currently inputing a large orchestral piece into Sibelius. I am trying to figure out the best and most efficient way to have the percussionists switch instruments. I would like to keep it all on one staff. For example I have the Timpanist switching to Vibraphone and back again. How would I do this? I was thinking maybe channel or program changes, but don't know how to realize it. If I customize a matrix, how would I traverse the matrix and still have it comply with the Sound Set definitions? Thanks.

I still haven't found an adequate solution to this. Just trying to find the easiest way to switch between percussion instruments. The whole keyswitch thing will be cumbersome if those notes appear on the staff. Please, if someone could help me with this I would appreciate it. Just to reiterate, for example: if I have a passage for vibraphone and I want to switch to timpani, I would change the clef, but how do I change the matrix in Sibelius? What is the most efficient and headache-free way to do this? Thank you so much. -Peter Scartabello http://www.myspace.com/peterscartabello

Try Create->Other->Instrument Change... and select Timpany. Sibelius will automatically switch to the channel where you have the Timpany patch loaded.

Hello Peter! All you have to do is to insert an "Instrument Change". That can be done in the Create/Other menu. Don't forget to reserve a channel for every program you will use in this staff on the Manual Sound Set page. Sibelius will then switch channels automatically at the instrument change. Thank you. That worked fine. Now if I could only have some bongos on Vienna!?? hahahaha. Did you forget the bongos?

Hi Peter, we didn´t record any bongos yet, not sure if they are really part of the symphonic arsenal..... and there are many many good bongo samples out there already. Best, Paul

One more question? Can you have a percussionist switch to three different instruments? I am trying to get the sounds to switch from glock. to gongs to drums and am having a hard time doing it. Thanks.

Hi Peter! You mean three instruments at the same time? In this case you will need three separate staves. If you mean one after the other, normal instrument changes should do. I recommend using the Vienna Symphonic Library House Style. There are some definitions for percussion instruments optimized for our sample collections. Best, Andi
