  • Cubase "time warp", Jamstix 3, and VE Pro sync problems

I use Cubase 5.5 64 bit on a win7 pro and vista machine (both 64 bit OS).  Using latest version of VE Pro (6853) on both boxes

I use a program called Jamstix 3 (32 bit) for drum parts and sounds.

Cubase has a feature called “time warp” that lets you to “stretch” the time from bar to bar, allowing you to sync up to an existing humanly-played track.

If I host Jamstix natively within Cubase (on Cubase computer, using j-bridge), I can use time warp.

If I host Jamstix inside VEPRO (on non-Cubase computer), and use tracks that are static time (metronome is at constant rate) within Cubase, Jamstix will sync to Cubase through VEPRO.

If I host Jamstix inside VEPRO (on non-Cubase computer), and use time warp in Cubase, the sync through VEPRO becomes erratic and unusable.

Is there a setting somewhere I’m missing?

    Thanks

  •  Is it possible that the promised AU updates on the next release:

"I've further improved the time synchronization of AU's in VE Pro Server instances for the next update, which will also work around the sync issues with FXpansion AU's"

    from this thread:
    http://community.vsl.co.at/forums/t/25839.aspx

will also be done on the PC/Windows side and fix my Time Warp problem?

  • I'm afraid it's not the same issue. It's added to our todo list however. Jamstix seems to be an exception, since other plugins sync fine.

  • THANK YOU for the honest reply.

I wasn't sure whether the problem was with Jamstix, or the fact that Time Warp changes the Cubase tempo track, or whether ANYTHING that uses the tempo track (and thus doesn't use a straight, metronomic time) might be the problem.  As I said before, Jamstix inside Ensemble Pro syncs fine as long as the Time Warp feature isn't being used (Time Warp is basically a GUI to allow changing the Cubase tempo track).

Unfortunately all the projects I am doing lately require both Time Warp and Jamstix, and I would REALLY like to be able to get the CPU cycles for Jamstix offlloaded to another PC.

I'll do some work arounds in the mean time.

I really, honestly appreciate getting a straight response.

    Thanks

  • You might want to try running with 0 or 1 buffer of latency instead of 2 buffers. It might improve the synchronization behavior for this particular plugin.
