    Hi folks!

As an amateur in subjects mix and mastering I hit a dead end with my latest work.

    www.ralfuhl.de/mp3s/sanor-v4-10-2010.mp3

Created with Logic, VSL Suite and VI-s. The sound feels a bit strange or wrong but I don't know why... So any hints would be apprechiated! [:)]

    Best Regards

  • Hi Ralf

I'm not the world's greatest mixer or technician when it comes to this stuff. All I would offer would be to say the string section is too subdued and the brass sections are too 'in your face.' They might want to be  back more through a different reverb placement while at the same time not necessarily losing their impact in the piece. That could occur by simply turning their individual section volumes down - which would probably be the wrong way  to go.

  •  Hello Paul,

Thanks for your reply - very apprechiated!

I already use different reverb placements. Will try to achieve your suggestions and give the strings a little more boost. My big problem is always the trumpet. Too often it sounds more like a can than a trumpet...

    Best Regards!

  • That's aok Ralf.

All I can offer in the meantime is maybe this. This is a Jerry Goldsmith HD recording involving a lot of brass, strings and percussion - so a little of the way you're aiming for. It's a good mix and I suggest you click the HD version and hear how the brass reacts with the strings. Just as an example.

    Best regards
