  • old libraries convertor

    Hi,

I know I've kind of asked this before, and I've been thinking a lot about this subject.

Is it a big effort to programme a converter in order to make the old library samples suitable for Vienna Instruments?

I know it is 16 bit, but I can imagine that there are a lot of people like me who would really like an initiative like this.

  • Can you explain your thinking behind why you would want to do this?

  • I don't pretend to know the second thing about these matters. However I paid a lot of money to be the owner of the Pro Edition/Performance Set etc. and "only" own the SE/SE+ Ext. I would adopt any efficient or near efficient method of using the formidable arsenal of my Pro Edition (Mac) in current 44/48/96 kHz 64-bit setups.

The efficient method was to upgrade when there were substantial discounts available. [;)]

  • Any other ideas perhaps? I still don't understand why Opus samples can be converted into Kontakt and mine cannot.

I think it is quit obvious. It's about the money. I always had this feeling nagging in the back of my head that I already had the good stuff. And then shortly after I bought it, a new version came out. For the upgrade I still had to pay a substantial matter of money. And just when I almost had the money (except for the last 1000 Euro) the option of using the upgrade offer expired. Now somebody told me that there are some arrangements to make about this. But still...

The second thing is that I really listened closely too the samples of the second edition plus libraries and my old samples. No spectacular changes, maybe there are, but I just don't hear any difference. So I assume that somewhere in the Vienna office there is this neat little conversion program that could be of good use to people like Errikos, me and probably a whole lot of more people.

That is the most clear and honest outline of the problem![:)]

  • Just use G Player then.

  • Thanks for the link!

  • yes, I know, but why?

I prefer to have Vienna Instruments/ Ensemble as a host. Then one may be perfectly sure that everything works. Or does G-player really does the trick. I checked it out for a year or so ago, but it had some problems with the playback of leato notes.

Plus, I use Sibelius. Sibelius and Vienna Instrument really go very well together, I don't think G-player does all the tricks that VI is capable of. But I am not 100% sure.

  • If you want to use Vienna Instruments, then you have to pay for Vienna Instruments, just like the rest of us did. Alternatively you can try hosting G player in VE Pro.

    DG

  • Well, obviously... The fact that VSL created the VI player and chose to charge thousands of €€ for it when a) East-West (and everyone else) only charges one hundred $ or so to upgrade to PLAY, and b) that VI player comes FREE to anyone who buys a few hundred € worth of an instrument but NOT free to customers that have spent thousands on VSL products, was explored some time ago in a very long and bitter "discussion" on this forum with nowhere near a satisfactory explanation from the company in my view. The management (correctly as it's been proven) risked at that time both a class action for false advertising and loss of a substantial number of top-shelf customers, and won... I still don't understand how the OPUS samples can be converted into Kontakt and my EXS ones cannot...

  • If you want to convert your EXS samples into Kontakt, why don't you just do it?

    DG

  • How? I have seen cm (or was it Marnix) in the EXS forum saying that the Kontakt conversion applies only to OPUS libraries.

  • No, what they said was that VSL only converted the Horizon series to Kontakt. There is nothing to stop you importing your EXS version into Kontakt if you no longer want to use EXS. Of course you'll have to come up with scripts for the Performance elements yourself, but all the rest should import very easily.

  • jeez, I didn't know that this discussion got that long of a tail... it still makes me wonder if the staff at VSL came up with the conversion solution for all my wonderful samples sitting there in a box...
