  • CC1 bug in VE Pro when using VST Expressions

Hi I'm using VE Pro 6853 (for some unknow reasons, the last version takes my cpu to overload), and when I use vst expressions, the CC1 is locked at 0. In other words, it doesn't work... Please don't tell me to use the last VE pro.

  • Hi Herrmann,

please include some details about your setup (we don´t even know which platform you are working on), so that we can look into it.

    Best,

    Paul

  • OSX SL, Cubase 5.5.1, Ve Pro build 6853, expressions maps SE. Thanks

  • Hello Herrmann!

CC1 is mapped in the Expression Maps. VST Expression ignores incoming CC messages of controllers that are mapped in a loaded Expression Map. That's why it doesn't work.

Concerning your CPU overload with the latest VE Pro version: I tried a Cubase 5.5.1 project with Expression Maps and VE Pro 4.1.7043 under Snow Leopard and it worked without problems and high CPU usage.

Here are some things you can check out:
Which buffer size of your audio hardware do you use? Maybe a higher buffer size would help.
It's recommended to set the buffer of the VE Pro server interface to "x2".
It might help to change the following point in the Vienna Ensemble Pro Server Preferences/Instances menu. You may change the numer of used threads in the Multithreading dropdown menu in real-time, and each server instance will use the specified number of process threads. Remember to spare a few cores for your sequencer if you are running it on the same computer!

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Well, you're right, it doesn't work... I really thought it worked with the free VE, my memory fails me... Sorry. Concerning the CPU spikes, I really have a difference of performance between 6853 and 7043. On the same project, I could lower the buffer to 256 with 6853, but not on 7043. Saving is quicker too. Anyway, this isn't very important to me, I can stand with the 6853. Thanks

  • Did you do an objective comparison of these versions? If anything, 7043 should be the same or even slightly faster in this regard.

  • I have made more tests, and do some research about K4 in the forum. 32b vs 64b. KMS vs not KMS. Etc. It seems that using the 64b K4 in VE Pro really helps. I have also deactivate multithreading and KMS in K4, now this is really smooth.
Still, I'm a bit confused about the memory management in SL. I have often 1 or 2 Go "inactive".
