  • Auxiliary library

I have couple of VSL  libraries.

May I aks what would be a good choice for auxiliary libs?

By other words: I am looking for another lib what would be complementing my current VSL libs.

  •  What are your current libraries? What sounds are you looking for?

  •  HI,

    I have:

    Appasionata I,

    Special Edition

    Special Edition Plus

    Solo Strings

I am looking for a lib to expand my above mentioned ones (for cinematic, romantic, epic works/tastes).

My projects are 44,1kHz, 24 bit.

BTW: I also have Play (SD, SD2, SOV), k3.5 (with some ethnic, prec libs).

    trif.

  • The problem with trying to find an auxiliary library to play with VSL on a strictly orchestral level is that, AFAIK, VSL is the only library that records their samples dry as a bone with no added reverb, colors, artificial flavors, yellow #5, hydrogenated oils, or any other processing.  So, if you have say Eastwest orchestral samples as an auxiliary, you would have to use whatever plug-ins you have to try and match your VSL samples to the EW samples which are recorded with their own unique ambience (color, reberb, hydrogenated oils, etc.)  Not easy.  I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble.

However, if you're looking to do orchestrated hybrids with other styles I'm sure just about anything else will work.

  • OK. Thanks.

Since I am into pure orchestral style, I will turn my head towards other VSL to expand my current VSL palette.

Any recommendation is very much welcome.

  • Seems like you are a string addicted, just like me :)

I don´t care much for the brass stuff, because I find it extremely difficult to use it without sounding artificial and plastic like. Of course it is also a question of taste, I´m just not a fan too big of this blowing stuff :)

Nevertheless if you want to expand in that direction, what about going for the extended special edition, because it gives you lots of brass and woodwinds. Perhaps it is a good time to get it with the Xmas deal anyway.

Apart from that, when you say, you want to do cinematic compositions, what about going for special percussion instruments, like in the "Elements" collection. It is also something that is not extremely expensive. Do you love movie scores like in S. Soderbergh´s Solaris ? There you go.

Anyway, if you don´t give a s***  about people in the orchestra playing on their "air powered sirens" as well as the drumming "noisemakers", think about the chamber strings.

    Greetings

    kh

  • I went from E/W QLSO Platinum to VSL -------------------> VSL IS THE BEST

    MacBook Pro M3 MAX 128 GB 8TB - 2 x 48" screen --- Logic Pro --- Mir Pro 3D --- Most of the VI libs, a few Synch... libs --- Quite a few Kontakt libs --- CS80 fanatic
  • Many thanks.

Well, I will stay with VSL.[:)]

  • For your writing styles, what do you think you would most need that you do not have?  That might help you decide what direction to go in.
