  • [SOLVED] Cannot find VSL instruments in my Ensemble or Standalone player

I suddenly cannot find my instruments in any view. I have run the directory manager to scan them repeatedly, rebooted, etc. The libraries don't show up.

I did recently update to Finale 2011 - could that have anything to do with it.

Please help - it somehow seems like there's always some technical glitch that keeps me from making music. I appreciate any help. Thanks.

  • Steve,

    1.  Try doing this in this order.  Go into directory manager and remove every directory possible so its completely empty.

    2.  Go to the actual location of where the samples are and confirm they are still there.

    3.  Connect your USB Dongle to your computer and launch the eLicenser program.  Does it load up, find your key and actually show you all of your licenses?  If not, remove the dongle and reconnect it, reboot the machine and try this step again.  If it still doesn't see it, be sure you are running the latest elicenser.

    4.  Re-open the Directory Manager and add the locations of the samples again.

    5.  Launch the VI Player stand alone and see if you can load some samples (do not open Finale, I mean literally just run the VSL VI Player stand alone).  If you can load samples here you should be fine to open your projects.  If you can't load projects in Finale but can in VSL, the issue is with your Finale Update.

    6.  Perhaps you need to re-run the plug-in scanner for Finale (I have no idea how to do this because I've never used it).

    Hope one of those helps.

  • Thanks Maestro, deleting the folders in the directory manager (as opposed to just rescanning them, as I was doing), and then adding them back, seems to have worked. Really appreciate it!

  • Also make sure you're running the latest versions of all your VSL software.

  • Hi there, not sure if I should start another thread or not, but I'm having the exact same problem. All of the sudden instruments have all disappeared from VI Pro and VE Pro in Logic and standalone mode today when I booted up the logic session I was working on yesterday. I've followed the steps suggested, as well as updated the software to the latest. My dongle is connected and licenses are showing. The instrument folders have not moved, and the files are in the directories. Any other suggestions on what to try? Complete uninstall and reinstall of everything? I've removed the folders from the directory manager a dozen times and added them again, still nothing shows up.. I'm running OSX 10.6.5 Thanks..

  • Hello TC33,

I checked your key and licenses, from our side, everything looks OK, all permanent licenses are there. I´d give it a shot with a new installation of the Epic Orchestra - best on a separate harddrive, just to be safe.

  • Hi Paul, Thanks for the reply, and thanks for checking for me. I'm happy to report that in my case it was pilot error on my part. I've got two dongles for the VE Pro and VI Pro licenses, but I forgot that the actual instruments only come with a single license and are only on one of the dongles, and I had the wrong dongle plugged in to my main system (I guess it's time for me to label them). It had the application licenses on it but not the instruments, (and I forgot that it lists the specific instrument licenses as well). Ah well, at least I've updated everything to the latest versions now. Thanks again for your time..

  • Hi TC33,

That happens to the best of us [:)]

Thanks for reporting that everything works again!
