    Hello,

    is there anybody, who can recommend a fast and silent 500 GB Harddisk for my new Macbook Pro 13'' 2,4 GHz ?

    Are 5400 rpm possible or has it to be 7200 rpm ?

    I put a Western Digital WD5000BEKT drive into my 15" MacBook Pro (2008). It's not silent, but VERY quiet. All I hear is very slight rotational noise. Disk seeking noise is almost inaudible.

    To make it even quieter I used a free PC program called HDDScan to change the Automatic Acoustic Management (AAM) to the quietest setting. This made a small improvement to the disk-seeking noise, with only a small effect on performance. I ran HDDScan using Bootcamp, but it will work with a USB external drive, if you have access to a PC and can put the new drive in a USB case.
