Hi

Are you looking for an algorithmic reverb?

I produced a demo with each of the following five reverbs:

TSAR-1 (Softube), Reflect (Virsyn), ICRAM Verb (Flux), BREEZE (2CAudio) and Roomworks (Steinberg).

Please listen to the 5 demos and vote afterwards for one of them.

Unfortunately, you don't know yet which demo belongs to which reverb... Wink

So it's a blind test so to say.

Go to http://www.beat-kaufmann.com/extras/tests/five-reverbs/index.php

and have fun with the demos.

Beat Kaufmann

P.S. Algorithmic Reverbs can be nice to produce a room over all - for using them in the master track.

I voted, but to be honest, I found the setting (huge cathedral) to be sooo wet, that my ear was drawn to whatever was the least offensive, rather than best quality. By least offensive, I mean the one that was not gettting in the way so much by washing the playing too much.

Having said that, I also liked the timbre/quality of no.3 the best, and no.5 the least.

In any case, all comparisons are useful on some level, so thanks for taking the time to do this!

Hi ozoufonoun

Thanks for voting

Of course, these reverb tails are far from any normal application. But if you listen to the "bridges" - between the sequences - you will recognize in a nice way how the reverbs fade out.

Some of them are warm, some of them do have a metallic sound or what ever... How do the reverbs handel signals after 5, 6 or more seconds, that's very interesting.

I will publish a convolution example after the voting phase as well...

All the best

Beat

Hi Beat,

I look forward to seeing the results.  However, I have one big question...  won't these results indicate which "setting" people like, versus which algorithmic reverb people like?  Wouldn't it be possible that tweaking the "worst" reverb slightly can make it sound the "best", and perhaps the preset is just not ideal?

Even so, its still going to be interesting =)

Cheers

So that's the explanation: http://www.beat-kaufmann.com/extras/tests/five-reverbs/index.php Select then Test " H U G E - H A L L ".
In the meantime I've tested TSAR-1 as well.

Unfortunately its factory presets are not as good as they could be. So I've optimized the one for the "long tail" and produced another listening possibility for comparing the reverbs once more.Click on "Another Example" for that on my site.
Tip: Check and compare the ends of the sounds (deep note of the cello, organ,...)
One
reverb remain static (Roomworks? Reflect?), one got a natural
modulation, one got a panned modulation, some of them are more removed from the signal than others...
Nevertheless, the quality is close together - not so the price.

All the best and thanks for listening

To me Ircam alwasy sounded best. Best as in more real and natural.

Thank you very much for your little test.
