I've been reading about setting up a slave computer. Without going into the whole subject at once I'll ask a few questions first.

BASIC SETUP: 2 I7 950 computers (1 master and 1 slave) with 24 gigs ram each. QUESTION 1: I am assuming the slave only needs a motherboard, processor, ram and hard drives (SSDs) and a LAN connection. Nothing else. TRUE?

You will need a monitor or a KVR switch. The SSD drives won't give you much space. Slave will pretty much need everything your master does minus the processing power. I wouldn't go overboard on the chip as it won't really get used. Unless I suppose you are doing other things than pure sample streaming

The software I'd be using is Sonar X1 as DAW, all 3 of Spectrasonics apps, Kontakt 4 (nothing heavy here) and VSL SE+ (may add Orchestral String 1). I want to stay 64 bit with everything.(waiting for Altiverb 7) or will possibly use MIR. I don't know what the best software/drive arrangement is for this set up.........?

I probably could get by on one computer. I wouldn't be using a bunch of Spectrasonics sounds with a big load of VSL anyway. 2 different genres.
