  • Polyphony setting in VI

How to change the max polyphony in Vienna Instruments plugin instances? I've tried ctrl + alt + p in cubase while the VI plugin window is open but nothing happens. I cannot find the setting anywhere. For some reason the polyphony is set to really low by default as when I am playing any of the instruments in the Epic Orchestra library, they start to cut off very soon if sustaining too many at once. This is the free regular version of Vienna Instruments, not the Pro version then.

  • This is a little odd behaviour of cubase, just having the VI window open doesn't fool Cubase into realizing that key commands are for the plug in, open the VI window, then click on something like the PERFORM button around the centre of the info screen, then do ctrl+alt+p.  that should then bring the pop up box up to select the polyphony.

I don't know what the default polyphony in VI is, but in VI Pro it defaults to 128

  • Hey thanks, I'll try that. It certainly cannot be 128 with the basic VI as it cuts off notes very early. The computer shouldn't be the issue, it's quite powerful, nor does any other sampler do this (play/kontakt). But I'll try it and post back.

  • Hello jarkkoh,

If you are using Velocity Xfade, each sustain patch voice is streaming 4 stereo voices, and if Release Samples are also activated, this results in 4 additional Release Samples are also being triggered. That´s 8 stereo voices for 1 note. If you play many multi-timbral parts, this adds up quickly with overlapping notes....

You might want to try to switch off Release Samples (on the "Perform" page) or deactivate Cell Xfade.

Alternatively, find your polyphony settings for VI, 128 should actually be enough for a good performance, but it will need more CPU power.

    Best,

    Paul
