  • VE Pro: Multiple midi ports for one instrument?

I have a template for EWQLSO that has well over 16 instruments - as such, I have 4 or 5 different MIDI ports assigned within PLAY standalone (for MOL + Lightpipe). However, when I open PLAY in VE Pro, I am unable to assign more than one MIDI port to one instance of the PLAY instrument. Is it possible within VE Pro to make accessible multiple MIDI ports to one instrument, or do I need to open multiple instances of PLAY within VE Pro and assign the MIDI ports that way? Thanks in advance.

  • It all depends on what sequencer you're using. If you are using Cubase, Nuendo or Pro Tools, then yes. If not, then no. However, there is nothing to stop you using multiple instances.

  • Thanks for your reply DG. I am using Cubase 4 (shortly upgrading to 5). When I use VEPro in a VST 3 instance, I can get many MIDI ports out of Cubase. However, my question is: can I still use ~50 instruments in one instance of PLAY and assign 4-5 MIDI ports to that one instance WITHIN VE Pro on the slave, or is my only choice to use multiple instances of PLAY? My preference would be that I would only need this one instance of PLAY, I just can't figure out a way to make those multiple MIDI ports accessible to the instrument within VE Pro. Let me know if I should clarify further. Thank you again.

  • I can't answer your question (although I still think you would need to use once instance of PLAY per port within one instance of VE Pro), as I've deleted PLAY from my system, so maybe I think that this is a question for EW support.

However, I don't think that Cubase 4 supports VST3, so unfortunately you can't try it out until you upgrade.

  • Cubase 4 does support VST3, but you have to make sure to use the latest update.
