I feel the strings legato is not strong even if I set the velocity to the highest...
How can we create a strong loud legato like the strings musician want to play it as loud as they can

 Three things:

  1. Which string Collection?
  2. When strings play legato as in the VSL legato, they are using slurs. Therefore the bow tends to move slower, because there are more notes in each bow, therefore it is not as loud as when using separate bows.
  3. You can always turn up the volume.  Wink

If you are using separate bow, then the legato is the wrong patch. Try sustain (maybe alter the attack) or portato, or repetition or detache... So many choices.

Portamento in VSL is always slurred, but if you alter the attack time so that it is faster, you can make it sound more like separate bows.

well yeah, maybe legato is wrong patch, but in my case, ... I just fff legato or like you said, maybe we can try with detache, sustain. How can we play fff while still being legato with slurs? I suppose playing slurs in high velocity is ok with violins

CC11/expression might get you more oomph, I guess depending on the patch.

As a violin player I can answer on bowing: You can make a harsh attack but can't keep it all along if you want to play slured notes. As if you want to play slured, the purpose is to not accent the second note. If you want to accent it, play detache.

Obviously you want a strong attack, so try a sustain/Sfz/FP patch. With sustain, you will keep the bow strong but less harsh than with Sfz or FP, but the velocity will lower after the attack with the two last patches.
So maybe you can stack (and VIP is great to do that) SFZ and sustain patch, maybe delaying sustain. So your attack will be strong thanks to SFZ and on the duration the note would be fff thanks to the sustain patch. You have to adjust, attack, volume and delay of the sustain patch so one couldn't hear the transition from SFZ to Sustain.

Regards

if you're a guitar player... know that every note that's connected, after the first bow, is like a hammer-on or pull-off.
WIth the bow you got some sustain, but these fff are not new attacks, it's relative.

If you need 'loud', here, what you want is a little compression on the channel strip in all honesty.

If you want a bigger attack, people layer a legato with a marcato or staccato or something... legato isn't the most robust attack in the drawer.

Ok, I know what I what, it's simply Detache but with legato or portomento effects. Like first note A3, then detache and fff slur to a higher note on the same string. So, one bow per note, but fff, also portomento or legato(connected note)
