The actual price is not the issue here. The VSL owner is proud to say "I have a library worth 10 000 euro", meaning that it's expensive but good and I am wealthy enough to afford it.

A nice-price policy for old customers is a gesture saying "we like you and want to keep you as our customer".

That's all there's to it.

Best

I don't think it's necessary to purchase VI Pro, since what it gives you are more bells and whistles--specifically humanization--which are fully applicable to other instruments as well, so it's hard to see the disadvantage to upgrading--though I do understand this frustration (I haven't upgraded yet either and my demo license is expiring very soon).  But it is the natural order of the music samples universe: they will make new things that replace (or compliment) old things, and we will want them (or occasionally, though more rarely, "need" them) and they will cost money, and we will buy them, and yea verily shall it continueth henceforth until the end of time.

But this tirade against VSL for releasing a new product is ridiculous.  First of all, what other products are they going to release?  There are only so many instruments in the orchestra.  So we have repeats, so what?  You now have choices and options.  I probably have enough orchestra libraries to do Havergal Brian mockups (Mahler symphony of 1000 anyone?).  VSL alone has given us 18 french horns (2 solo, 8 epic, 4 section, and 4 dimension), and I am not complaining.  How big is your brass section?  Mine is ENORMOUS!!!  Look upon my horns and despair!!!

Are you going to cry shame again when they release dimension strings? (it only makes sense they would do this since strings in an ensemble operate similarly, and people have been begging for VSL divisi and/or 2nd violins).  Can you imagine?  It's going to be a-a-a-awesome!

I don't understand the anger that you don't get a discount.  I have a few libraries (not the cube, but a few), but I didn't have the funding to take advantage of the winter sale, and I'm not going to blame them for my *really* wanting to.  I have plenty of other libraries, and technically don't "need" another, but I'm not going to go off on the company because I couldn't take advantage of their special before it expired.  So what?  There's always next year.  Maybe by then they will have released something new that I'll be drooling over (which is very likely).

If you have the cube already, how much more do you need?  The answer for me was "more, must have, [grunt, drool]" so I paid my money, so that the Circle of Sampled Life may continue.

So "Sorry, David, but I don't agree with you."  I guess I could have said just that.

Peace.

I was also thinking that it might be better to have VI Pro included however this would

  • Upset people who already purchased VI-Pro
  • Make the Lib more expensive
  • In case of additional Dimension Libs accumulate in cost

Same with Kontakt Libs including the player already, I am not sure how exactly it is handled, but i assume Library providers need to play license to NI for every player sold ....

I for myself am greatful for the crazy efforts that Vsl made over the years to provide orchestral sounds under our fingertips.

So, all this begging for discount is-well- just begging.

Vsl doesnt deserve and those who turn themselves into beggars dont deserve it either.

Let's not get all silly and call it begging. That's really not very constructive, just insulting.

What we're trying to do here is express to the VSL team that it may be a very good policy to reward their loyal supporters by giving them discounts on their products. We are not asking for free stuff. Money will still be generated to produce more libraries. In fact quite possibly more money will be generated as the decision to purchase will be made easier.

I would much prefer some discount on the products I really want rather than these pseudo deals that were offered recently. For example, I almost took up the offer of the Special Edition Plus DVD, but then I realised that the stuff I was getting for free was the stuff I didn't really use very much or at all, and all I really needed was the standard library.

I too own most of the vsl librarys and software.

i think dimension brass is a great concept and deserves its price tag.

however, having purchased vi pro i was expecting - and am expecting - new presets/metrices that take full advantage of vi pro's new features, and that would include brass/string/woodwind devisi incl. the already existing instruments/samples.

i understand that this solution would never be "as good" as the specially recorded dimension brass sections - however it would save me a lot of work and put vsl on par with a lot of other "more affordable" libraries that have these sections available in their presets.

i'm willing to pay a little extra for such presets - understanding how much work it takes to creat them.. however i do agree that such a preset upgrade should be free for "power customers" - and such presets would require a large set of librarys to be installed anyway (for instance brass I and II for brass divisi presets)

i say: "Divisi for current customers - YES. but with the already existing samples.."  if that doesn't do for them they should be willing to go the extra mile and spend a little mor on the specifically produces libraries.

i think that'd be a fair solution..

hi gernot,

Right after the release of VI Pro, VSL said on the forum that they would supply us with presets for it.

I'm sure they've been busy but we would expect them to keep their word on this.

We all look forward to this.

Another bump for 'presets' of what we own to date (I have most of what VSL has supplied.)   Seems like these presets are taking their sweet time.   Now that DB is out perhaps we shall see them soon.   Looking forward to it as well.

what would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?

I am very much in agreement with the idea of the VSL Team providing us divisi presets etc of the current libraries and then if they come out with new ones, that it come at a cost.  I don't know the best way to establish that cost, but I do hope they won't forget us who have all of the original libraries and what magic we could do with wonderful presets of already setup divisi's from the masters VSL themselves :).

No, VSL samples are only available in Vienna Instument (pro) player. VI Player is free, pro has to be purchased.

You can use Dimension Brass with the free player, but only the pro version enables you to auto split your 4 voices on one sequencer track. So, in terms of the sound, you can get the same result from the free player (detuning can be done in each sequencer track). In terms of ease of use, there are some disadvantages of the free player, that are even more obvious with this new library.

If you plan to buy more VSL libraries in the future, the purchase of VI pro makes a lot sense.
