  • Cubase 6 64bit VST Mac OS X

Hi guys, I just installed Cubase 6 on my Mac (10.6.6) and when I run it in 64 bit mode and select a Vienna Instrument / Ensemble / Suite instance, I only get to see a window with some of the parameters (levels, pan, etc.) in it - but no GUI. No problems when switching to 32 bit mode, and also Logic 9 64 bit has no problems with the 64bit AU GUIs. Are you aware of this issue or can someone else please confirm this as a bug? Thanks, Carl

  • Currently the 64bit VST plugins indeed have no GUI. It's a missing feature rather than a bug. An update of all plugins with full 64bit VST support on OS X is on the horizon though.

  • Hey Karel, Thank you for clearing that up - maybe its mentioned somewhere but I couldn't find this information. Hope to see a 64 bit VST GUI soon though.;) -Carl

  • Does this mean that I won't be able to use my VSL libraries in 64 bit with the New Cubase 6?  Especially VI Pro with my New Appassionata librariy...and VE Pro.

  •  I would suggest that you use Cubase 32bit and VE Pro 64bit. That way you don't have to worry about the VST bridge capping out for all your 32bit plugs.

  • DG,

I was just doing some setups in Cubase 5.5 using VE Pro 64 bit and 32 bit at once.  That way, it looks like I can use the VSL library in the 64 bit version, and other 32 bit plugins in the same Cubase template, All externally from Cubase.  So, with Cubase 6, I should be able to do the same thing, while enjoying some of the new features.

  • Hey dayadon, moving from CB5.x (32bit) to 6 (64bit) shouldn't be a problem - you can still use the 32 bit versions of VI/VE which will connect fine to your 64 bit VE pro instance. The downside of this is (as already stated by DG) that CB6 x64 has to start a VSTBridge process to make use of your 32 bit plugins which consumes CPU power. As long as VI/VE is not available with a native 64 bit GUI, you should use CB6 in 32 bit mode, as there will be no need for a VSTbridge then - but of course all other new features will be available to you. I started this thread because the native 64 bit versions of the VI/VE VST instances showed up with no GUI. This was quite a surprise for me because the 64 bit AU (AudioUnit) versions - which run in Logic 64 bit - already have a GUI. -Carl

  • Thanks, daedalus23.

As it turns out, I've been having a decent time learning to set up Cubase 5.5.2 with VE Pro and VI Pro (64 & 32 bit).  I think, then, that the 64bit version of VE Pro should be fine(?) with CB6 32bit for now.  I would, however, love to use the 64bit version of CB6 with VI Pro, because I don't know how to get the VSL instruments to respond to things like panning from VE Pro directly from CB.  No issue with VI Pro, but I'll run out of memory soon with VI Pro and CB5.

  •  If you are trying to use MIDI panning for your VSL instruments, then forget it. They do not respond to MIDI pan.

    DG

  • OK, then.  So, do you do panning of VE Pro VSL instruments from inside Nuendo?  If so, how?  And, can I do it, too, inside Cubase?

  • I make sure that each instrument in VE Pro has its own output, which comes into Nuendo as a VSTi Output. I do the panning on those tracks. Actually I don't quite do it that way, but my way is probably far too complicated for what you are after.

    DG

  • Maybe it's far too complicated, but I'm a reasonably intelligent person, so if you can clarify, and try to stay away from statements that could be construed as condescending, that would be more helpful than short, assumptive statements.  I'd really like to know some details, and perhaps pick up some good ideas for making things work better.  If you don't have time, I understand.

  • WHEN????? How could you leave that "feature" out. If your customers can not connect to a vienna ensemble pro server, this is not a missing feature...it is a f--- up. When are you going to fix this?

  • Hello,

the fix is already in preparation and we are hoping that it will be released this week.

As always, and for your convenience, all updates are tested intensely before release.

    Thanks for your patience!

    Best,

    Paul
