  • Will a 100Mbit ethernet port work with VE Pro ?

Will a 100Mbit ethernet port work with VE Pro ?

I have some Windows XP only VST instruments that I want to use on an old HP zd8224 laptop.

Unfortunately it has only 100Mbit ethernet port. Will it work ?

I will only run one VST at a time so no big traffic over LAN to that computer.

  • It should and it will. Even if specification tells you that it's necessary to have 1gb network it works perfectly fine with 100mb ones. The traffic coorditation mosty depends of the network card and how do you set the settings.

  • Thanks for your response.

Actually I am already up and running with the 100Mbit port but I encountered some problems when running Remote Desktop to share the PC screen on my Mac screen, then it seemed to be too much traffic in the ethernet cable OR maybe my old laptop is not really up for the tasks...

Anyway when quitting Remote desktop everything is running smooth.

  • you could also try to minify remote desktop (or depending on your desktop size open RD with a less large window size) - this should reduce network traffic ...

how much bandwidth on the network is needed you can see in your PC's taskmanager (network tab) .... everything beyond say 70% may become critical ...

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • In my network connection - 1GB both cards - with external SLAVE comp, I hardly ever have traffic over 10-15%. And that seems to be a problem. How to make this connection more "open".

could you please specify to which kind of problem you are referring now?

  • Easly :-). Now I have 1Gb cards, previously I had 100mb and it had worked fine. However I feel, that this 1Gb is not use its full transfer, as it should be.
