Is it just me or does this website/company make it extremely hard for a customer to demo/buy their products?

I've been trying to find/download the demo for Vienna Instruments Pro.

My initial attempt failed, so I emailed the support. Their rep responded very quickly and was great, thanks Stefan!

I now have the host but I can't find the download manager or the sound libraries anywhere on the website!!

I consider myself to be above average intelligence, but I've been banging my head against a brick wall for almost twelve hours!!!

This is not my first VST purchase but I've never been so perplexed!

Please help/SORT OUT YOUR WEBSITE!!!!!

Enjoy your relaxing Sunday, cause I'll be going crazy trying to get this to work!!!

Hi Tony!

Which sound libraries are you looking for? As far as I know there are no demo libs available.

Ok, then you would need either this:

http://www.bestservice.de/detail1.asp/vienna_symphonic_library/vsl_exploration_kit/de

Or at least a Vienna Key (which has all Demo licenses on it) as well as someone who can give you the install files.

I think even the VE Pro Demo does not come with the Libraries (only included in Purchased Version)

Sorry ;(

Thanks again,

I have a Steinberg key with several, it appears useless, VSL licenses on it.

So, let's just clarify, you can't actually demo the demo??? You can only demo the host??????

What's the point of the demo then???

I'm debating whether to buy Miroslav Phil or VSL - can you guess which one I'm going with????

Thanks for your help.

You'll find that the VSL website only shows downloads that are available to you, so if you haven't bought a download instrument, then the download manager will not be visable for you, and that applies to the manuals and updates as well. There are no sound library demos available (except extended libraries which are only available if you have the Standard library). You must also be logged in to your user area as well, though this should happen automatically if on the same computer.

Once you get used to the VSL website, it is very logical. Though,  when I downloaded the Vienna Ensemble Pro demo, it was unclear if the Epic Orchestra (which is free with VE Pro) would be part of the demo - but it isn't, and I was a bit dissappointed that the demo of MIR only demo'd with one position in one room.

Perhaps Vienna Instruments Pro, shouldn't be available to demo unless you already own a VSL library, as you end up with a player and nothing to play

Vienna Instruments Pro is an upgrade to the Vienna Instruments player and it only plays samples from VSL. if you don;t have any VSL libraries, there would be no point in demoing it anyway. What were you hoping to use it for?

Tony,

First of all, you can demo the software.  Just not the samples/sounds.  Vienna Ensemble Pro is a host for other VSTi's as well as VSL products.

I have friends who own Miroslav who wish they had purchased VSL.  I think you are making a rather rash decision based on the fact there are no demos??  I don't know of many sample libraries/software companies that let you demo anything...  I know a couple do, but still.  The demos are all of the mp3's that are posted on this site.  Yet another place to look is youtube. Several posted videos there.

As for your steinberg key, it will work fine with the VSL products.  I own one myself, and have no problems loading my licenses onto the steinberg key.

VSL speaks for itself.  It is a great library. I highly recommend it!!  Take a step back, calm down... and think it through.  If you are happier with Miroslav, then buy it. But I would never buy software based on the fact you can't demo it.

Which VSL products are you looking at purchasing? Just out of curiosity.

Unfortunately the OP wants to demo VI Pro not VE Pro.

Thanks Brad!

Serenity now!! Just been to watch The Rite with Anthony Hopkins and it hasn't really altered my mood - a movie to avoid!

I enjoy composing in my free time and I'm just after a good/realistic VST with orchestral sounds.

I demod, if that's a word, the Miroslav VST and I'm impressed, but then I saw VSL on youtube and thought I'd investigate. Thier website implies you can demo the VST in its full glory.

Thanks for your concern for both my health and VST options.

DG,

I have a demo license for VI Pro on my Steinberg dongle. So does this mean I can download the orchestral library for demo??

Thanks for everybody's help! I've regained faith in humanity!!!

Tony

P.S.

Don't go and watch The Rite, it sucks!!!

The only way to demo the sample libraries is to buy the exploration kit. Not what you want to hear, I know, but I'm afraid that is the situation.

I can tell you that I have used both Miroslav and VSL.  VSL sound and playability were both better.

Heaven forbid anyone actually pays for something these days.  I'm glad VSL uses protection keys.  It prevents cheapskates from ripping them off.  You won't believe the number of people who wanted me to give them Symphobia for free.  I paid $2700 for both and these #($*#($* want me to give it to them for free?

The only thing that might be neat is if VSL ever has a server where you can try before you buy, like TrySound.com.  That's a nifty idea. Personally,  I got the Exploration Kit but it was a gift from a composer I'm working for so i didn't pay anything for it but WOULD have if he hadn't offered.

I compose therefore I am.

I have had the same thing happen.  Someone wanted me to give them Symphobia and LASS.  They said,"Hey I'll trade you some cracked software I have."  I mean really????? This same guy has never paid for one piece of software, and yet has about everything known to man. Makes money off of it... and still doesn't pay for anything.  Rediculous!

Yeah the rationale was that he was a college student and couldn't afford.  Jesus, the self entitlement.  when I was in university I had a U20 and Atari 520ST and got by just fine with that.  I almost told the guy to f- off and really wanted to report him to the administrator of the site but figured everyone can make a bad judgement so I just told him I wasn't going to give away software I bought.

I compose therefore I am.

OT Comment:

Fiery Angel... a U20!  I actually also had one (it still functions as a sound module amazingly enough-the keyboard is way beyond repair).  Of course there are now some sound samples by this new-fangled dedicated Austrian company - that rather supercedes it by just a bit <smile>.

yes the U20 was great in its day.  Probably the keyboard I owned for the longest time.  Over 10 years before I traded up for an XP30.

Don't miss those days though.  With VSL, you can realize every music idea possible.

I compose therefore I am.
