  • Midi Ports with Omnisphere/Stylus and Logic

I've been grappling with Ensemble Pro since yesterday and I'm sure I'm getting there but I have one issue I can't quite figure out.

I'm setting up an instance with several Omnispheres, Kontakts etc, but I'm confused about the MIDI channels.

For example, I load Omnisphere into Channel 7, set the MIDI In to Omni and the Channel to 7. However it's only when I load a patch into the 7th channel within Omnisphere iself that I can hear any sounds. Is the correct or do I have a setting wrong?

As it stands the moment I reach Channel 9 I won't be able to hear anything from the plugins.

    Hello Jon,

please check out the chapter "Multi-timbral instruments in Vienna Ensemble PRO" in the VE PRO Manual, on page 22.

Basically, the first number you see is the MIDI port, the second number is the MIDI channel (page 19, "Channel Overview").

If you are working with Audio Units (Logic, DP), there will only be one MIDI port available, by design.

    Best,

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

    Thanks for the reply.

I have Omnisphere working now without any issues, however I'm still a bit stuck with Stylus RMX.

As far as I know, it can only use MIDI Channels 1-8 and that can't be changed. So I load up Stylus RMX into VE Pro and add the patches I want to use in each channel.

This work fine in midi channels 1-8 in Logic as they should however, if I select tracks 9-16 in Logic, the RMX play through them too. For example, the drums I loaded into Channel 2 of RMX also play through Channel 10.

This happens even when I have other instruments assigned to the channels in question.

  • This is indeed an RMX quirk so keep it in a separate instance.

  • Aha, thanks Ashermusic, nice to know I wasn't going completely nuts.

All up and running really well now.
