  • Auto-Divisi?

I'm using Dimension Brass. But how to activate Auto-Divisi? I can use and program it, that I got 4 Slots used. When I play one key, you hear the sound of slot 1. If a play a second key, you can hear the sound of slot 2. But how to program, that I press one key and all the four sounds are player. When I press 2 keys, the voices are splitted?? What Preset or Patch do I have to use?

  • You cannot switch the Auto Voicing by a controller, so you need to have a preset made up of 2 matrices, one set up for auto divisi (with  4 slots loaded and Auto Voicing on) and another with 4 slots loaded and Auto Voicing Off.

If you load the preset Dimension Trumpets - 01P Tr-all Universal Pro, then keyswitch G2 and G#2 show how this is done.

So there's an idea for a new feature,  Midi controller controlled Auto Voicing on/off...........

  • That sounds funny. VSL writes at the websites about Dimension Brass:

    Auto-Divisi

Vienna Instruments PRO can automatically split voices between players. Play one note, and you’ll hear four players in unison. Two notes will divide the ensemble in sections of two players, and so on.

  • The auto-divisi Matrix should do the job.

For this matrix are four keyswitches (= setups) available:

C2     splits your chords to one player per note

C#2   to two players per note

    D2     three players per note

    D#2   all four players

So you have just to decide before you play any chord how many players should perform each voice.

  • Hi Herb,

the following sentence from the websites

Vienna Instruments PRO can automatically split voices between players. Play one note, and you’ll hear four players in unison. Two notes will divide the ensemble in sections of two players, and so on.

let's me understand, that VIPro knows how to split the voices and that it's not my turn, to do the decision before playing. So I just concentrate on the melody, because I alway got to press Key-Switches. So another Controller should registrate how many keys are pressed and then choose the right matrix or something else.

Would theoretically be possible, practically it's not working especially for live keyboard playing. Therefor we didn't want to implement it.

Ususally there are tresholds of 25 to 50 MS if you play a chord on a keyboard between the different voices of a chord. That's natural behaviour of keyboard playing. So you need at least a delay of 50 MS of the player engine before any "desicions" about voice distributing could be calculated and any output signal will be sent. For keyboard playing a no go in our opinion.

  • I understand this. But I guess that the combination of the two sentences on you websites let grow another expectation. Just in my case.

  • I would actually agree with Tim in this case. The use of the term "automatically" indicates that the voicing is handled without needing user input which is not the case. I actually prefer the way VSL has implemented this compared to other libraries that actually do split things automatically because of the need for a small delay as Herb has metioned.

I would maybe suggest figuring out a way to rephrase the advertising though so that it doesn't lead customers to assume that by simply playing 1, 2, or 4 notes, the voicings will "automatically" adjust.

Great library though! I'm really loving it.
