  • VEP Behaviour changed re: cells changing within matrixes

I have just discovered that the VEP behavior has changed from the way it was in the past (I don't know how far back) in regard to changing cells within matrixes.

    For example:
if I have a preset loaded with multiple matrixes (triggered for example by C2...A2), each consisting of a 8x3 cells (patches), triggered by a combination of keys.
If I activate matrix1 - cell A1 for example (3 key pressed corresponding to the matrix, cell_X and cell_Y).
Then activate matrix3 - cell A5 (matrix key first, then the X,Y keys for the A5 cell).
Then go back to matrix1 by ONLY triggering a SINGLE key (matrix1 key).

In the previous VEP versions,  matrix1 would have remembered its state (cell A1). Now it plays A5 even though I never activated cell A5 for matrix1 (only for matrix3 in our example).
In other words, in the past the XY coordinates for a cell will ONLY go to the selected (active) matrix. Now it seems like they go to all the matrixes, no matter if they are selected (active) or not.

When did this change? It was absolutely awesome before because I could independently select a certain cell for each matrix at the beginning of a long phrase, then and only switch back/forth between matrixes only by using one single key switch. Now I HAVE to trigger all 3 key switches every time (one for the matrix and two for the XY of the desired cell within that matrix).

Am I missing something here? Maybe there is a preference I overlooked?

Running VEP 4.1.76/Win7 x64 on thye slave PCs, non-VST3 server interface plugin within Cubase6 32bit/on Win7 x64 on the DAW.

  • just realized this: VI (within VEP) behaves as expected from this point of view .. it is the VI-pro that sends the "cell change command" to all the matrixes. Was this the case from the beginning with VIpro and I didn't realize until now? :) Is this what other users prefer?

  • Hello Catalin,

    sorry for the late reply.

You are right, we actually changed this a few versions ago in VI PRO, also because of the way Dimension Brass is organized, with different player setups that you want to switch between: Of course it´s cool to stay on the same with the same articulations for these structured presets and matrices.

To adapt to this new way of switching between matrices and to adapt your older songs, the best idea is to add a keyswitch or controller that sets your matrix back to the first position, like you were used to do.

    Hope that works for you!

    Best,

    Paul

  • Thank you, Paul.

Any chance that this "matrix syncronizing" could become optional (via preferences) in a future update?

While I see the advantage of matrixes' sync for the situation of using Dimension Brass, I think that in most scenarios the corresponding cells in different matrixrs will have different patches loaded.
