  • Polyphonic Legato in Vienna Ensemble Pro

    Hi,

I just purchased and installed Vienna Ensemble Pro and I am trying to get polyphonic legato to work with Sibelius.  I currently have "Interval Mode" set to the "Polyphonic" setting but when I playback the music in Sibelius the clarinet parts (which are two separate voices on a single treble clef) are clipped and "jerky" and do not sound as independent legato phrases.  I'm sure I'm missing something simple here so I apologize for the newbie question.

With my current setup I have simply loaded the Special Edition Plus instrument "presets" into each respective Midi Channel (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, et al) and I'm wondering if I need to load "interval" patches or something else instead?  No idea.  The video tutorial on Polyphonic Legato on YouTube mentions the importance of holding down the "sustain pedal" but I can't find this anywhere in the instrument editor window and I don't use a keyboard.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

    Chris

  • Hello Chris!

You got me a bit confused.
Vienna Ensemble Pro is just the host for Vienna Instruments or Vienna Instruments Pro. The polyphonic legato mode is only available for Vienna Instruments Pro, but I couldn't find Vienna Instruments Pro registered under your account.

For use with the Special Edition (and SE PLUS) Sibelius sound sets, please load the matrices (not the presets), that came with the Special Edition and Special Edition PLUS.

A sustain pedal can be substituted in Sibelius with the following MIDI command:
    ~C64,127   (= pedal down)
    ~C64,0     (= pedal up)

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thank you for getting back to me so quickly Andi!

Yes, I have installed Vienna Instruments Special Edition and VI Special Edition Plus on my computer (OS 10.6.4) and I am using Vienna Ensemble Pro as the host.

Do I therefore have to upgrade my sound library to "VI Pro" in order to enjoy polyphonic legato?

    Thank you,

    Chris

  • I think I was just confused about the difference between VI and Vienna Ensemble.  I think I purchased Vienna Ensemble Pro accidentally thinking that it would enable polyphonic legato.

  • Hi Chris,

I just checked your account, and you actually purchased VE PRO twice (!!).

You can get in touch with us at and we´ll figure out a way to make this right.

Please mention this thread in your mail and address the mail to me.

    Best,

    Paul

  • Hi Chris,

You don't have to upgrade the library for having polyphonic legato just buy the VI Pro ...anyway, you won't regret the "accidentally " buy of VE pro...is so so useful !!

      All the best

    B

  • Wow!!  Good catch Paul!!

I suppose I would have noticed eventually but I really appreciate you catching that mistake.  Okay, I will write an email to support right away...

    Thanks again,

    Chris
