  • MIR and Vienna Ensemble Pro

    Hi everybody,

I'm planning to buy Vienna Suite (I'm waiting to see what's comming with the Hybrid Reverb). I already own Vienne Ensemble Pro and Vienna Instrument Pro. Since I work on Mac OS-X, I didn't have chance to try MIR's demo. I read on this list that Mir Pro will be multiplatform. I might be interested but I don't understand well how Mir and VEP are complementary in a DAW (Logic Pro 9) + VSL environment (I'm not a live user). Anyone can tell me more about this complementarity?

    Thanks a lot.

Actually it's pretty straight-forward: MIR Pro will act as alternative mixing frontend for VE Pro. You will either route individual "MIRed" instruments back to your DAW (much like any other insert), or you use MIR as alternative master bus (most likely the more intuitive way). Vienna Suite has its place in this scheme as hi-end DSP plugin bundle. Even the Convolution Reverb will be useful as soon as you want to use advanced processing options like Ernest Cholakis' "Timbral Impulses".

    HTH,

  • Hi Dietz

This confirm largely what I supposed (MIR as an alternative and more powerful tool for placing instruments in space).

But more concretely, can you explain what I miss if I use MIR Pro directly as a Plugin in Logic (whitout using my VE Pro) apart a good host for other plugins? Suppose that I only use VLS libraries to do standard "classical style" orchestral music and that Vienna Suite can be use at DAW level for general sound processing and in MIR PRo for sound processing on particular instruments.

[Of course, I'm conscious that I will certainly continue to use VE Pro for other kind of projects].

    Thanks again.

  •  Hello,

I am still trying to understand if MIR Pro will have the same design as the VE Pro server when it comes to working with 3rd party app like Finale or a daw - ie, that it loads itself as a vst within the host app, but still runs externally as a standalone app?

Yes, the workflow will be exactly the same. As Dietz metioned above: MirPro will be an alternative mixing frontend for VE Pro, still including all the current (and quite some new!)  VE Pro features.
