  • VE Crashes after Library Update

    Edited comment:

My templates will now load without the library update installed but VE crashes after the update.

    Any ideas?

  • Are you using the 64-bit versions of VE and VIPro?

  • Yes. I only ever use VE 64-bit. Something within my windows install went wrong (don't know) and I had to reinstall. After the reinstall VE had the problem. I reinstalled again and VE still doesn't work. Yet VI Pro loads everything fine.

  • I know what the cause is now. I just don't have a solution.

I am in the habit of installing the latest of everything before testing which prevented me from noticing that everything works fine before I apply the special edition library update on the VSL site. I am not sure why this is a problem as the templates I have were created after the library update (due to a previous issue) so everything should work fine. This isn't the case. I load it pre update, works great. I load it post update, crash.

I am at a loss as to how to fix this.

  • Please remove the Vienna Instruments cache file, located at:

    Mac: /Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/VSL/Vienna Instruments/cache.bin

    PC: C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\VSL\Vienna Instruments\cache.bin

Then restart Vienna Ensemble / Vienna Instruments

  • I moved the cache files for VI and VI Pro and tried both separately removed and at the same time. Nothing worked. I tried loading the string legato patches in VI Pro in stand alone and it works fine. I even loaded as many different patches in VI Pro as I could and went well over the amount of ram that VE crashes at and VI Pro worked great. I loaded pretty much every instrument I own. I've tried installing VE (7846) and that didn't work. That's all the relevant info I could come up with. Hopefuly it helps.

  • I have more information. Until I can afford MIR I currently own Reverberate. I tested VE under a couple conditions.

    ---

    1) I loaded the updated legato patches and all my time stretched patches (anything I could consider 'modified') then loaded my template imediately after without closing VE (don't ask why I thought it would do anything, just did) - And this works... 50% of the time anyway. - it on and off crashes now. If I try to load my templates from the start, it crashes 99% of the time as before.

    ---

    2) Once I had something loaded I made a version with no Reverb busses (so no reverberate VST's loaded) and it now works about 85% of the time. It crashes on load (at a higher ram amount...?) once in every 3-5 times I try. Keep in mind that none of this matters before the library update as everything works fine. I can at least use my library now but only with some inconvienience.

    ---

    3) My last point. There is something else different about VE pre update and post update. Before, it would show the 'loading data, please wait' popup for a few moments... then I would see my tracks, VI pro... I could play the loaded samples on the keyboard, etc. - After the update. It shows the 'loading' popup the entire time until the template is entirely loaded in the RAM. As VE is behaving differently in more than one way after the update, I wanted to provide as much information as possible if it helps find and fix the problem.

Thanks for your help and if you know of anything else that could help, please share.
