  • Triggering portato

In a new composition with a trumpet, I use portato notes. But the portato mark, a small line above the note, does not trigger the portato articulation. What's wrong? In my earlier compositions the portato marks work fine.

To locate the problem I created a Sibelius sheet with only one trumpet. The portato text above the note triggers the articulation but the portato line above the note does not. The problem is the same with any wind instrument.

I use Sibelius 6.2.0, Special Edition Plus, Vienna Ensemble and VI Pro.

  • Hello Pekay!

The tenuto (or portato) mark doesn't create a Sound ID by default. So the articulation can't change automatically. If you use the Vienna Symphonic Library House Style, the according Sound ID is added with the mark and the articulation change should work as supposed.

If you don't want to use our House style, you can enter the Sound ID manually. In this case go to the Sibelius Dictionary/Articulations/Tenuto and enter "+portato" in the line "Sound ID change".

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thank you very much for your quick answer! Yes, it works now. I had forgotten to use the VSL House Style.
