  • Everything's here - OK building the network, help please

My new VSL samples arrived, the computer bits shipped to work, so now over the next few days I need to build the network. Please tell me if I'm not thinking clearly in this build, so I can get working finally:

    1) Install all samples and VEP and VIP and Suite and "Play" on the new PC (edit 4 Raptors, couldn't afford SSDs). Put my dongle for VSL and EWQL samples on that box.

    2) route everything into Cubase on my iMac via instantiating VEP. I keep the Cubase dongle on the iMac and add second license of VEP to that dongle???

I'm not so concerned with the router routing etc as I've some experience with networks, but other wise am I thinking clearly? The big PC has VEP and VIP and Suite, and all my samples, the little box(iMac) holds Cubase and nothing else. Correct? That's how I want it anyways...

I don't need 2 dongles for everything, licenses etc., I hope?

  • You're all good and set to go. [;)]

  • Very happy to know this:)

    I made a mistake, though, I don't have a bunch of 300GB Raptors like I thought I did. I have 2x150GB and 2x74GB. I currently have 400GB of samples.

I DO have 4x500GB WD drives. Can I run this in a RAID setup, no redundancy, pure speed? I mean run the 4 rives as a single drive. This box is only a sample slave and VEP server, so I don't need redundancy - I can load my backup if it fails. The motherboard I bought has RAID capabilities. I've never used RAID before.

I know SSDs are the way to go, but I don't have that much money these days...
