  • More game music

    Hi all,

Here is another song I was making for an upcoming flash game, which I thought turned out pretty good.  The ending is intended to loop immediately back to the beginning.  Errikos, hopefully you can't say it is anything like John Williams this time =)

The old main theme I posted previously is also updated with crossfading and balance.  Errikos, I tried adding the woodwinds in the hits as you suggested, but I couldn't overcome my own bias towards the original way.

And variations of another slower theme:

I'll take these links down in about a week.  Feedback will be very helpful and appreciated!!

    Best Regards

    ~Shawn

  • The new theme sounds gorgeous! congratulations,

Though it's not what I understand as "game music" by my utterly deprecated stardards :)

    Cheers

  • Thanks =)  By my logic, if its music, and its for a game...

  • I so much prefer it when people betray influences in their music (healthy), rather than specifically trying to copy certain pieces or composers as their primary goal - that's for students and 3rd raters. So, I hope you have good luck with these nice track Shawn.

  • Wait, which category are you saying I fall into?  =)

The way I see it, everyone is "always" a student.  For me it's (usually) not about pursuing originality, its about pursuing the ability to create an awesome musical experience, regardless of whether its original or imitation.

  • I was being complimentary Shawn. I felt that your earlier piece sounded as the result of a specific effort to copy John Williams' style, something which is not worthwhile in my opinion even if it could be done perfectly. Whereas this time around, I can still feel him and Goldsmith, but as influences this time in a work that's yours; there is a big difference, and a step in the right direction, one that hopefully will lead you to a sound that is more than less yours. I agree that one should not intentionally pursue originality - it can be a crippling experience. If there is any originality inside you it will come out anyway, if you don't stifle it by particularly aiming to sound like someone else (which I felt happened the first time, much less now).

    All the best.
