Hello, I was wondering what does it really mean "Pre-load up to 10 times more samples into your RAM when streaming from SSDs (Solid State Drives)". Does it mean that with SSD drive as a source for Vienna samples, I could go with less RAM than with normal hard drives? The reason I'm asking is this - Apple just released new Macbook Air laptops and to my great disappointment capped the memory to 4GB. I'd like to get one though because it would make a great lightweight on-the-road composing tool. But having just 4GB won't cut it for larger Vienna projects, I'm afraid - unless VI Pro 2 helps out somehow? Stakula Composer, sound designer

It means exactly that. My testing with Kontakt4 I can even get more than ten times the samples packed into memory. Only problem now is capacity and cost.

Concerning K4 how do you set that up so that it takes advantage of ssd drives? What settings? And how does one set that up with Vienna? best, SvK
I once thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken. MacPro 2x3Ghz Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 16 Gig RAM, 10.6.2, Metric Halo 2882, Logic 9

You can set the preload buffer to 6kb. That is 10% of the default value. With the arrival of VI 2.0 this should be possible as well within Vienna Player. Right now it isnt.

With VI Pro 2.0 you may have different preload settings for each library. Therefore you can mix drives (SSD and old) and optimize the settings for each drive.

Ok thanx... but when i dial down the K4 buffer size to its smallest value....It doesn't reduce my RAM footprint ten fold..... best, SvK
