  • Vienna Ensemble Pro Network Connection

Hello everyone, Thank you very much for your help, in advance! I have installed VEPro (v4.1.8008) on my Mac Master machine. The server interface works well when used as a localhost in ProTools 9HD. I have also installed VEPro (v4.1.8008) on my PC Windows Vista Slave machine. I access the slave through remote desktop over a gigabit LAN connection (which connects through a Switch). The local IP address of the slave is 192.168.1.102. My problem is that I cannot find the slave VEPro server with my VEPro Instrument in ProTools 9HD. I have confirmed that all settings are identical, but cannot figure out where the kink in the pipe is...? Thank you so much for your help and advice!

  • Same here. VEP is so unstable I don't know if it is problem of my DAW, LAN connection or my slave machine. I am using VEP (v4.1.8008) on both my PC. Server running Cubase 6, windows 7. When I start up Cubase I can ALWAYS connect to the slave; but after I work for a while, when I have used many VSTis, then when I load the file the next time, VEP will disappear on the server interface. However I can always find the VEP started on my main computer - the DAW computer. And the strangest thing is, if I leave the computer idle for half an hour or so ( sometimes ), the slave VEP would mysterious appear on the list again. The performance is so sporadic and temperamental, it is frustrating. Imagine loading a file in front of a client and such things happen!

Are you using fixed IP on all machines?

  • DG, Yes... If I type in the IP address of the slave into the Master's VE Pro server, I can connect. However, the slave does not just show up in the server window as a selectable option... Thanks!

  • Hi silverah,

VE PRO needs the following network ports to be available: 6472, 6473, 6474, 6475, 6476, 6477.

    Hope that helps!

    Paul

  •  Are there any issues with having both TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6 installed?

  • How do you do that, on the router? I can't find a port control item on the router menu....

  • Paul, Thanks for your advice... The firewall on my slave PC is turned off. Shouldn't this make all ports available? Still not working...

  • Paul, Also, if I type in the fixed IP address of the slave, the server will connect and the slave will create an instance (named as the ip adress). I cannot apply this method to the instances I want to connect to though. IE... Master can connect to 192.168.1.102 as the slave creates an instance titled 192.168.1.102l however, master cannot connect to "Brass" if that is the name of the instance in the slave... I think my point is that the network connection is working, just not advertising onto the master server...

  • Hi silverah,

Please send sme illustrating screenshots to , to avoid misunderstandings.

    Thanks,

  • Hi everybody, Same problem here, did you guys found a fixe? This happen to me on all big template project. This is really really boring. I have a friend who get the same issue too. Problem also appear when we exchange project. This is really mysterious, sometime it shows up sometime not, today i m trying to get it since 3 hours....waist my time! Sorry if i look a little bit angry but i get the problem since the first version of Vepro and it still there even after many update. I sent ticket to the support but nothing helped me. Even tried to change the ip like the support s guy told me but no result. Please did someone fixed the problem? Thanks in advance.

  • I have the same problem as all those who have been posting. After awhile, the VEP server finder doesn't show any of the loaded instances on the slave computer. VSL tech support tried to help to no avail. I set the IP address manually, connected to the 2 machines directly to each other etc. etc. I've had to abandon the VEP server which is really sad. I missed a TV delivery date because of this. I'm still not sure how to replace the server in my workflow but I feel that I must. It's not reliable now.

  • I noticed something that maybe can help to find a solution. I tried to connect by keying the ip and instance s name like said before then i noticed that the Vepro wont connect to the 64 slave but connect to the 32. So if i create for exemple "Brass" instance on the 32 the Vepro will connect and if i try to connect to a 64 that a created before for example "strings" it just gonna open a new 32 named "strings" and wont connect to the 64 who alraidy exist. Well well i guess there is an issue with the 64. By the way is there any way to tell Vepro to connect to the 64 or 32, if it does please let me know. thanks in advance.

  • SoundLib's G Player plugin was the problem in my Logic project. Once I took it out, I was able to connect to the 2nd machine's metaframes. The DP Mach has been known to cause similar connection problems in the VEP server.

    Check your plugins!

  • I should clarify that the G Player was not in a VEP server. It was simply open within my Logic project. Strange but true....

  • Interesting but for me, no G Player in my project and my template is just full of 40 Vepro. Anyway it will certainly help some of us who have that network issue. Keep going.

  • Hello again, I found a little trick to get the slave instances showing up. 1/ Open the 32 sever on the slave computer (usually i dont need it) 2/ open the Vepro VST where you need to open the 64 instance who doesnt want to show up, load a Vepro instance by keying the ip and instance s name. Right after that it gonna open a new Vepro 32 with the name you entered just before. 3/ Close the vst Vepro s windows 4/ Open the Vepro s windows again, clic connect, then the 64 instances from your slave machine should appear...a least it works for me. 5/ If it doenst work, repeat from 1/ to 4/ sometime it just appear the second time. 6/ If it still doenst work, well buy candles and try to kill a chiken when the moon is full ;-) Keep searching!

  • Anybody ever get this resolved?  For a long time now my VE Pro 64 bit server doesn't show up in the list.  Using Nuendo 5.5 with the latest VE Pro with Windows 7 64bit on both machines.   Earlier on when VE Pro was released it seemed to work fine but hasn't in a long while.  I have tried fiddling with firewall settings, even turning it completely off, to no avail.  I pretty much have to key in the ip address of the server to connect to it.

  • Hi,

Vienna was never able to help me. They tried twice to no avail. I spent a lot of money hiring various tech folks who tried changing my ethernet setup. So as to be able to bypass VEPro entirely, I even went so far as to buy a 2nd audio card for my 2nd computer which had been using VE Pro server. I use 3 workstations and therefore bought 3 soundcards.
Shane Koss, a studio consultant in NYC who also demos Vienna products, was the one who finally came up with a solution for me. He had run into a similar problem with someone using Digital Performer with the Mach sampler. Shane discovered that when the Giga files were taken out of the setup, VE Pro Server projects showed up fine in the server window. In my case, I was indeed using a few Giga files hosted by SoundLib's sample player. As soon as I pulled the SoundLib component out of my Logic plugin folder, everything worked fine.
I was happy to have found the solution, thanks to Shane, but I spent a ton of money trying to get the system functioning properly and more importantly, eventually lost a large contract because of missed deadlines. It was the first time I'd ever lost a contract and the first time that I had ever missed deadlines. It was awful. I have a composer friend who has jumped ship from VEPro for the same reason. I knew, at the time of my problems, that I was not alone in having these issues with the software. I'm really sorry to hear that there are still problems with it because VEPro is great... when it works.
I don't know if this helps or not. Good luck!
    cheers,
    Judith

  • I am confused, are there people running VEP5 on the same Ethernet / Network / Ports as the rest of the office network? I am new to VEP 5, but knowing something about computer and bandwidth, the setup I have is via a dedicated Ethernet / Network / Port on my MacPro. All my general network traffic internet / email / file sharing / printing / etc. is using one connection and on a completely separate network (including cabling / switches / subnet) I have no more than 5 VEP 5 machines running running. More than enough bandwidth so far for what I need and everyone seems to be running well. That GPlayer issue is crazy! Sounds like some people have really dug deep to figure out how to fix this issue!
