Every DAW user knows the audio performance is "supposed" to be better when set to "Background services", at least if we believe the very broad consensus about it... But what about in in Win7 64bit?

Is ASIO still a background service ?? And does this setting really matter if I only use the PC as a slave with VEP server instances? - Since I even don't have any soundcard installed - is "backround service" the right choice for my Slave PC or should I justz leave it to "Programs" ?
