Hello,

In every "typical" instrument (not performance), the samples we can see in the mapping editor match the keyboard (on C3, you have one or more samples with the waveform of an instrument playing a C3 note).

So, to go higher than the maximum range, we just need to select the higher sample and increase it towards the right, then the new higher notes are just the original higher sample but tuned.

Here's my matter : I'd like to get the solo viola legato performance higher than the D5 (I want to reach the C6), but the samples are mapped in a special way and we can't apply the technique I've just explained.

Someone knows how to do it ? I'm using Kontakt 4.

Thank you so much, your help would be invaluable to me.

Be careful with your octave numbers, as Kontakt names the octave one octave lower than VSL. So assuming that you are using the Kontakt version of Middle C (C3) a Viola can't really play C6. It would be off the fingerboard. D5 is actually pretty high already.

Sorry not to be able to answer your question though.

Yes I'm conscient about it, I just wanted a custom Viola that can be used as a Violin too. I find the VSL Solo Viola so tasty compared to the Solo Violin (for the ensemble, Violini are the winners).

I know it's possible to do that, I've heard this VSL Viola going until A6 (7 semi-tones over his maximum). Let's hear an exemple (it goes to to F5) : http://www.mediafire.com/?optk14dgkyzjdmo

Thank you for your help, I appreciated it.

Fair enough. It is possible to stretch the samples (actually it will compress them) in Kontakt, but because of the mapping and scripting it is beyond me. Sorry.

As a part-time Viola player, I wouldn't want to be playing any higher than F5. Imagine the arm ache.
