  • VE Pro needs too much power

I got a PC slave and my Dual-Mac (2,66 GHz, 20 GB RAM) with Logic running. All the VE Pro instances seem to use half of the CPU-power. Is this normal? How I can get a better performance?

  • Can you give more details.

How many VE pro? do you use swap ? Mac os ? .......

    Disks ?

today I had a very bad surprised ; "Coreaudio overload" when I play the 1st time a song recorded the day before ; only 5 track of audio no midi, all my VSL tracks empty !

  • I use about 20 VE Pro on a slave PC. What is swap? How to use it? I got Mac OS 10.6.8 as host with Logic 9. Disks?

  • I don't know if VEP 'needs too much' power per se. However, within Logic the instances (of VEP and Vienna Suite) do all seem to pile up on one core. It does to a certain extent limit the fun of the experience and the number of VEP instances.

It's not  just a problem with VSL software - it would seem to be an issue with Apple's Logic. For example, East West's Spaces does the same thing. I'm sure there are many other examples.

  • I use about 30 VE PRO on 2 slave PC. No problem! :)

  • You need to explain what disk you are using, where are you VSL lib, your songs, your system

To check the swap ====>> "activity moitor/system memory/swap used

If it is = to 0 after one hours of use, your system run in good contidions ; if not and you use 5400 rpm disks you have solution like :

    - add more memory

    - use SSD

    - wait VE PRO 3

    ...

To reduce the load on your system you can increase the buffersizes In Logic and in VSL

    On my 1st Macpro (12 core) I have 84 x VI (8 x VE) and i use 20 % of CPU[:D]

  • I uses disks with 7200rpm. Everyone.

    Swap used 0 Byte

I got 20 GB RAM in my Host Mac. I have increased the buffersize to 512 Samples (24ms). Is it just, that I got a Dual Core?

  • If you do not have real time recording you can put Logic's buffersize to 1024

A dual core is slower than an 12 core !
