  • Can I do this with Vienna ensemble pro??

I have a few old giga studio boxes with the cube 1st edition on them. I would like to drive from my new  DAW. Rather then waste money on MOL. Is there a way to drive the old boxes using VEP

  •  Gigastudio is not a vsti instrument (with a *.dll extension). It's a progam in itself with an audio driver system propriatery So you can't open it in VEP but you have three solution to manage *.gig file with VEP:

1.The tascam plugin vsti of gigastudio :GVI (Giga virtual Instrument) You can open it in VEP and use your old *.gig file . But two problem this product is discountinued and it is a little difficult to install it under Windows7 but possible (problem to found the e-licence) you must edit the registred data of W7: I did . But GVI is discontinued so windows8 etc...?

2 Gplayer is an alternative .it's a vsti player of *.gig file without to import/conversion :

    http://www.soundlib.com/gplayer/

A friend of me use it, but I don't test it.

3.Kontakt import and convert the *.gig

Hope I answer to your question

    best regards

  • There are a couple of other ways to put these machines into use. However, neither of them are free, so is it worth the cost to test something that might work with VEP?

     Hi Dup

I managed to install GVI3 in W7 by changing the registry, but I cannot open it in VEP 5. I run vep 5 64 bits in my host computer and after direct the VEP plugin to the TASCAM GVI folder, it did not show up in the plugin list

  •  Hi Tim,

     W7/cubase6 :

    1. open VEP 5 32 bits and I can load GVI  try to play :ok

    2. Open VEP 5 64bits instead of 32 bits : I load the GVI (jBridged v1.4) ok. play an instrument: OK

So it works.. Are you sure that you have jBridged the GVI because it is in 32 bits

    Best regards

  •  Hi Dup

Thanks for your help. I am glad someone is still using giga technology.

I have 2 computers. The master runs W7 64 bits and the slave XP professionals 32 bits.

I try to open the 32 bit VEP in the slave computer, but cannot load the GVI in the VEP 5.

Can you detail the steps that you did to load the GVI within VEP 5?

Also when you isntall jbridge, did you have to do anything in regards to GVI which was installed in master computer?

    THis is what I did

In the slave, Open vep5 Server -> preferences -> Plugin then I choose the folder where GVI IS Stored( C\Program\Tascam\instruments\GVI)

I did not see GVI in the plugin list

I was using the GVI within 64 bits Sonar 8.5( in my main computer W7 64 bits) and did nto require jbride, but I also installed jbridge for my other 32 bits VSTi that I used within 64 bits Sonar

    Regards

     Tim,

Today will be difficult for me to give you all the manupilations to run GVI in W7 because I teach 9 periods and as I master not very well english it takes me more time

but there is something I don't understand and opposit  in you two messages. Once you say that you want to load the The GVI in W7 (master)

So I undestand that the GVI.dll is on your master W7 and I don't understand how to open a plugin in an other machne (XP) where it is absent??

    Explain again

  •  Sorry , I forgot to mention that I install GVI on 2 machines( GVI.dll on 2 machines) and I only have 1 dongle. When I open the GVI in the slave, I just move the GVI dongle to the Slave machine as I am not using GVI in the master computer ie You can only use GVI on either computer at a time( not both together)

As mention the previous post, I can open GVI in the Sonar 8.5 64 bits without a problem even though it is 32 bits application

    Hi Tim,

ok I see a little more your configuration but but something is still contradictory to the proper functioning of what you want to do, you're looking the GVI in the wrong VEP :

    It can't be found here!

     for working:

slave: vienna server pro 32bits  + gvi.dl and the dongle

master : open your sonar 64 bits..inside you must open the Vienna ensemble Pro that must communicate with the 32bits Vienna server of the slave and open in it (the slave computer) the vienna ensemble pro that can't be in 64 bits ( you're in Xp32bits) but in 32 bits.

and inside this VEP you must see the GVI plugin if you have put the reference path in the preference.

I suppose that the error is to try to open the GVI in VEP of the master and not in the VEP of the slaved computer..

Let me know if we continue the detective story

  •  Hi Dup

Thanks for all your help. I worked it out last night.

I used jbridge program to create a bridged GVI which I stored in a seperate folder in my MASTER computer. I then add that folder to the 64 bits VEP5 plugin directory and voila, GVI appears in the VST plugin list. My mistake earlier was that I did not bridge the GVI( 32 bit appilcation) and that is why is was not regconized in 64 bit VEP5 in my master computer

I try to clear up the confusion. I can run a 64 bit instance(  running 64 bit VEP 5  in my master computer) and 32 bit instance( running 32 bit VEP 5  in my slave computer) side by side.

The other problem that I encounter was that I cannot assign MIDI channel in the sonar to the GVI. Normally when I open the GVI in the Sonar, I can assign a MIDI channel of the MIDI track to it. In this case, I open the GVI as plugin in the VEP 5 and choose  a plugin MIDI in and channel the eg VEP plugin MIDI in 1 and midi channel 13  ( I also create a MIDI track in Sonar and assign its MIDI output to VE Pro plugin MIDI in 1 and midi channel to 13) ,but as GVI is multitimbral plugin, I cannot assign a MIDI channel to the individual midi channel within GVI

Anyone else outthere with similar problems? I suppose it will be similar to Kontakt,Omisphere. However, I have never used them.

  •  Hi Tim,

    Glad it works for you.
I'm not sure to have all included what you need to do because I thought you wanted to use the GVI on the slave machine and now you use the master .. but as you have the desired result,it's the essential.

But know that all the potential possibilities worked with the GVI :(slave-master-32bits-64bitJbridged. ..).

About your concerns with GVI multitimbral routing, with the ports of VEP pro it works perfectly, you can put the number of vsti mutitimbral you want and select a single port for each of them (example VE Pro plugin for Omnisphere pm 1. . EV Pro plugin for GVI pm 2 .. etc ...) and then select MIDI channels for multitimbrality.

  •  Hi Dup

Thank you very much for your help.  I work it out by creating another instance and only use
GVI as plugin. I then use different MIDI tract to control different MIDI channel in the GVI

  • Gplayer works well. Exs24 works well. Kontakt is the worst POS for importing gig libraries I've ever used. I used Giga for YEARS...and couldn't get K2, 3, or 4 to convert a SINGLE gig file correctly. I don't have any vsl Giga libs, but all the rest were a no go...and you really need the performance tool to get them to work as intended--that doesn't even work with gvi, I don't think, does it?

Ive replaced everything I used Giga for little by little over the years...strings from vsl, orchestra from QLSO, drums from bfd2, pianos from Scarbee, horns from vir. I retired Giga when I moved to win7x64.
