Hi all (Paul & DG and Others).

I ma going to buy 2 of WD 3TB 3.5'' SATA-III 6GB/s Caviar Dreen Hard Drive - 5400rpm 64MB and connect them as an external hard drive with Akasa DuoDock USB3..The problem is no space in my 6TB internal HDs!! and I need to transfer some of my libraries (around 4TB) such vienna ins. and some of EW libraries and others to these hard drives..My question is do they do the jop as an internal HD does? I think you got my point..

All the best and happy new year.

  • Hi Shakuman,

I would definitely go for 7200 rpm drives when it comes to harddrives you want to use for streaming.

In general, you seem to have quite some experience with TB drives....

    Best,

    Paul

  • Many thanks Paul for your response..Ok Paul have you got any idea about the best internal HD with 3TB and spindle speed at 7200rpm available in the market ?

  • Why do you have so much space requirements?

I think you be better off separating your libraries to smaller, faster internal discs with their own Sata channel. And get SSDs for your most used sounds.

How much money do you have invested in terabytes of samples?

After my next vsl purchase, I'll have about $4k in less than 500gb of samples. Strip it back to what I really use regularly, I could easily fit it on a pair of 120gb SSDs, leaving the rest on a 7200rpm disc in case I ever get a wild hair for them. It's nice to have however many drum kits are in bfd2, but honestly, I end up using less than 10gb of the (60gb) sounds for most of my work. If I were you I would be taking a look at what you really use and getting them on fast internal drives. And split them up. A single, many terabyte drive on a single sata channel having to load all sounds in a project? Horribly inefficient.

  • get a SATA III RAID card and put a raid of SATA III 7200  or 15000 rpm disk of 1 or 2 TB

More you have disk faster it will be
