  • Do I need 12 cores for Super Package?

    Hi,

I´m considering buying a new Mac Pro 2,4 Quad (8-core) along with the Full Package Vienna Samples. If I fill it with RAM to maximum, possibly running the library from 2 SSD´s in RAID, will this be powerful enough without a slave computer?

I work in Sibelius 7 and Pro Tools 9 with VE Pro 5.

I´m considering Vienna Suite, is this software very demanding on CPU / RAM?

    Thanks,

    Henrik

  • This will depends on how many tracks you play and how complex are your tracks

    MacBook Pro M3 MAX 128 GB 8TB - 2 x 48" screen --- Logic Pro --- Mir Pro 3D --- Most of the VI libs, a few Synch... libs --- Quite a few Kontakt libs --- CS80 fanatic
  • Hi Cyril,

as filmcomposer my tracks are in many cases full orchestra, but often around 24 stems. Fairly complex, meaning that I write very detailed in terms of articulation. Hence, each stem will change patch once or twice every bar on average.

    Cheers,

    h

  • What are you using now?

  • Hi Cyril,

    I have now been shopping!
    Here's what I went for:
    MacPro 8-core 2.4
    2x 480 Gb 6g SSD in RAID 0(stripe)
    120Gb 6g SSD System Disk
    48 Gb RAM
    Vsl Super Package Full

Regarding MIR: I will demo it and see if it runs well, I have an older MacPro dual core that I'll try on network.

I will get everything next week and will let you know how it plays!

    Cheers from Oslo,

    Henrik

  • Hello Henrik

    Wow !

    Did you visit a bank ? [;)]

You forgot to buy a SATA III 6Gb/s card to put your raid 0 of ssd

It is good that you got 48 GB on my configuration with 24 GB, I am a bit short of memory as after a while my swap file is 1.74 gb

    Best

    Cyril

  • Yes, I´ll be eating beans only this year...

SATA III 6Gb/s card - you mean the brackets/adapters to put the SSDs in?

    h

  • It will depends of your card. I have the Rocketraid 640 so my ssd are ouside the Macpro tower. so I also need an external PSU for the SSD
