  • I just got Epic Horns!

I received the library today. These samples are very nice! I especially like the major and minor chord patches, which have a very warm, round tone. The staccatos have a pleasant punchy sound, which i'm really digging.

I have quite a few of your Horizon Series libraries, and they all have a very consistent sound. I don't know how you people manage to coordinate these players into making great sounds, but whatever you doing, you are doing well! [:)]

If you ever make an "Epic Trumpets" library, I would buy it the day it comes out. Keep up the good work, VSL!

  • I got these myself and I was pleasantly surprised. I like the chords myself, but I could not find much information in the manuel...how many notes were used in the chords? How many players per note?

  • That's a good question about how the chords were played. I'll have to check the manual as well, to see if they list that info.

Something interesting I discovered while playing these horns is that I can actually FEEL the energy of these instruments hitting me in the chest and on the arms! I'm using Mackie HR624 Nearfiled Monitors, and the sound I get is fabulous!

The modwheel crossfade patch on the sustain notes is another fun patch to use, especially for crescendo/diminuendo. It can go from a warm, quiet tone, to blaring, and forceful - Excellent!

  • I'm happy to hear you like the stuff.
The chords are a kind of "bonus" material, it was not planned, therefore also a little surprice for me.
During the last session only f, ff stuff was on the schedule - the loud dynamics usually take more time - and the musicians needed something mellow for relaxing.

The chords are simple 4 voices major and minor chords

    C - E - G - C
    D - F# - A - D
    E - G# - B - E
    etc.

    2 players for each voice.

    best

  • Dear Herb,

I think it's great that you take the time to read and post here. I really appreciate it, and it gives great insight into the library as a whole and what goes into it.

    THANKS!

you plan to make a demo about these type of samples ? It must be very good to listen !
I'm wondering how many samples should be recorded to avoid the "32 horns" problems when playing four lines with epic horns.

Add "Epic Trombones" to that list too. [:D]

  • Can you point out what you get from these horns, that you dont get from the basic (I have Compl. pack 1ed.) horns. A bigger sound I suppose, but can you be more specific?
