I'm working on a piece where the flute part calls for  - harmonics, breath tone, air tone.

I have the full version of Flute I but can't see anything that will help.

Has anyone had to mock-up these articulations using VSL or any other samples.

Comments gratefully received.

You may want to take a look at the woodwind instruments from xSample.  They have a number of patches for extended techniques and noises including s-noises, air-noises, key-noises, blow-noises, etc...   Their samples are recorded dry so it should be easy to combine with VSL.

There are no extended techniques for woodwinds other than flutter tongue and clusters in the ensembles.  VSL may be recording some at some point but nothing yet.  Ircam solo instruments has some extended instrument effects which might be combined with VSL.  The normal articulations of VSL are the best so you would want to keep as much of those as possible.

there is a library by Orange Tree Samples, 'Passion Flute' which provides extensive 'extended' approaches. It might work for your purpose.

Thanks to the three of you for your suggestions. I will check out these samples to see what is suitable.

Hopefully VSL will look at this soon. Very many modern flute scores, especially in the "classical" area will call for

these types of articulations.
