  • keyswitches don't always seem to work

[:(]I've generally been able to use the keyswitches by inserting them directly into the piano roll. But it seems next to impossible to turn off the portamento articulation and go into a legato or sustain without the slides  continuing.

My setup is 1A: DB legato 355

    1B: DB portamento 365

    1C DB sforzato 345

    Anyone have any ideas?

  • One thing, that perhaps you are already doing, any keyswitch must be located just before the next note sounds.  If you set the keyswitch at the exact same time as the following note plays, the keyswitch will have no effect on that note.

    Thanks Nolder,

But yes, I've been doing that and it still doesn't work. But largely in that one track.

    Thanks

  • The problem seems related to the douible bass samples. I wonder if it has to do with it being a transposing (one octave lower than notated.) instrument. But I can get it to start with legato or sustained, change to portamento or another (e.g. ponticello) articulation but it won't change back.

If the keyswitches are within the playing range of an instrument they doesn't work (properly). So when you mention "Double Bass" it really could be that...

C0  within the VSL-Player corresponds with C-1 in Cubase for example

C~  VI is C-2 in Cubase

With Logic you should be able to adjust this difference somwhere in the settings.

Try to set the bass key-switches above its playing range and observe whether the switches still don't work.

    Also

Make sure that the A/B switches (which are sometimes set without your help) could get a value which could be the lowest note of a Bass instrument as well...

You may rest assured that this problem isn't a bug because the VI player is now a very long time in use with billions[;)] of people around the world...

I believe it has something to do with the range of your keyswitches and those of the playing range of the instrument.

    Success, my dear

  • This has probably been considered, but is your mod wheel affecting your articulations? If you have a second row of cells the mod wheel position may be forcing your articulations to another row.

  • hmmmm. I have noticed a phenomenon with one instrument, Overdrive Guitar, where certain articulations (eg., 'feedback') won't quit in cases where their location is a second vertical, or third etc vertical dimension. remedied by getting out of that dimension. and obviated by placing that articulation in the top dimension. occurs whether that V. dimension is obtained by CC1 or a switch.

    Thanks again Beat,

Putting the key switches at C6-D6 solves the problem! (The A/B switches were not activated and neither was the mod wheel.)

Incidently, in the bass sample, the pont articulation doesn't seem to make much difference, probably because I experimented with it on a very low note.
