  • Feature Request: Audio Input Plugin as an Insert Effect

Its been asked for before but Im going raise it again. VEP is an amazing piece of software. For all of us that use it as an effects host it would be even more amazing if the Audio Input plugins could function as insert effects. I currently route all audio out of pro tools into VEP and back for mixing. Insert effects on each track are hosted in VEP (including MIR). I can also add channels in VEP for parallel processing and sends and route these back to pro tools. Finally Ill use protools for bus effects and side chain processing. This works really well. 64 inputs and 64+ outputs no problem at all. But the need to have outputs on their own track adds complexity to the mix making it harder to manage. For example if ive recorded a piano and need to edit the audio, I do this on one track. If I then need to automate its volume I must do this on a separate track. Sure I can get pro tools to change the mix view to show the audio tracks for editing or the aux tracks for volume automation etc but its just not ideal. I know the argument has been raised that VEP was not designed with this in mind. But to me it works so well for this purpose. This one small change in functionality (though I have no idea how difficult this would be to actually implement) would be hugely beneficial in terms of workflow, productivity and general happiness :)

    Thanks Stuart

  • I have to agree. Again. Against all design decisions. Sorry.

  • There are technical reasons why this approach wouldn't just work as well, unless you can tolerate another latency buffer being added to the equation just for this purpose.

  • :(

I would happily tolerate another latency buffer! Used solely as a mixing platform i would happily put up with waiting another few milliseconds when I press play.
