  • Multi Processor Settings - VEPro 4 & Kontakt 4 in Logic

Hello - I have read a good many posts kind of touching on this subject, but haven't found a real clear answer. I have an 8 core MacPro running Logic. I am hosting 12 instances of VEPro Server, 32 bit on the Master machine, 64 bit on Slave. I am wondering what the optimal settings are for multiprocessor support in VEPro, and also in Kontakt (which is instantiated several times in my setup) Also using a couple instances of Play within VEPro.

I am working on expanding my orchestral template, and I'm starting to experience some glitching on playback. Seems like Logic is maxing out one or two cores while others are nearly unused. I have experimented a fair amount and can't see that changing the settings is really doing much.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  • I am experiencing a similar problem. Just upgarded my mac pro and still have processor problems but only in logic. Like you mentioned, only 1 processor is spiking and killing performance for all of Logic. Anyone know what this is?

  • If I were you I would not burden the machine with Logic running with VE Pro, but put everything on a slave, and the slave is going to be the more robust machine if there is a difference. There is no problem running 32 and 64 together, booting x64. Further, if this division is what is causing you to run 12 instances, run less instances. In x64 server, you're not likely to run into resources limitations for a while. If you could reduce to four instances on the slave and devote 4 'threads', ie., cores per instance you're in a lot better shape than you are now.
