  • VE Pro5/MIR24, Sibelius 7 and third party instrument.

Hi, after a day of figuring out how to use VE Pro 5 and MIR24, I got it working in Sibelius 7 perfectly (demo license). What an amazing sound! I thought the hybrid reverb of the Suite was great, but this is another dimension! I'll start saving to buy it later this year. But I do have a question concerning using Garritan PO4 within MIR24 (I use Garritan for woodwinds until I can buy Vienna). The mixer of Sibelius 7 only has the possibility to choose an instrument for a stave and the channel. So for using Vienna you just choose VE Pro or an event plugin and the right channel for the instrument you want. Using Garritan normally requires choosing it as an instrument and again the right channel. But how to bring Garritan within VE Pro 5 to use it on the MIR24 stage and still be able to use it within Sibelius? I read all the manuals but can't figure it out. I got it kind of working by using an event plugin for each instrument and then adding an instance of the Aria player per plugin and putting it on stage (it didn't work to use one event plugin and then multiple channels for the woodwinds), so that enabled me to choose the event plugin in Sibelius to address the Aria player. The problem here is that when setting up the manual soundset in Sibelius, I cannot choose the Garritan soundset for an event plugin. So I chose general midi or the special edition soundset, and that only works for just the basic articulation. Is there a better way to do it? Thanks! Heike (Orchestral Strings 1/2, Dimension Brass, Vienna Suite, VI Pro, Sibelius 7)

  • Hi Heiki,

Although I cannot help you to resolve your issue because I don't use Sibelius with MIR, I wanted to let you know that since your true question is about making it work in Sibelius, you are better to ask this question in the Notation/Sibelius forum.  That way ANDI can see your question who is the Sibelius pro on this forum and works for VSL.

  • Hello Heike!

The Sibelius player isn't a VST or AU instrument and can only be opened with Sibelius. Also the sound sets for the Sibelius player are not available for other instruments (like VE Pro). You could route the output of the Sibelius player to the VEP Audio Input plugin with help of one of the Sibelius Effect busses, but as far as I know it is only possible to route the sum of the Sibelius player instruments to effect busses and not every individual instrument.

So as far as I can see, there is no satisfying solution to bring more than one Sibelius built in instrument to MIR Pro (or MIR 24).

Btw. I recommend the following setting in your Community user profile:
    Community/Content Editor: Enhanced
This way you will be able to format your text with your web browser so that it doesn't appear in one block.

  • Hi Andi, thanks for your fast reply! It's just that I was talking about the Garritan Aria player (and not the Sibelius player), which is a vst instrument. Does that provide a solution? The player does not seem to have a way to change settings for output.

    Best regards,

    Heike

  • Hello Heike!

I don't have the Aria player installed, but if you need the internal Sibelius sound sets it's no difference to the Sibelius player. If you load the Aria player with Vienna Ensemble Pro, you can only use the sound sets that are available for VSTInstruments and not the Sibelius internal ones. If you load them with Sibelius, you will have to load an instance for every instrument in order to be able to send the output to different FX busses and therefore to different VEP Audio inputs. As Sibelius only offers four FX busses, I guess it will not be possible to have more than four different positions.

    Best,
    Andi

  • Thanks again Andi, I guess I'll have to save up quicker then, to buy the Vienna Woodwinds!
